Comments of chapter undefined of Heart Over Sword

The author is really making us hate him. This is the most over the top insensitive character I have so far come across. Others hide their indiscretion but this one is so openly reckless.

He’s an idiot. He’s worried that Arvid is trying to take her, but he throws his chance away because he can’t keep it in his pants!

They’re both ash holes! Arvid is worse; he’s also a snake. But geez, Conrad sees how stunning Evanna is and still chases skirts in her presence!

I'm so confused. Is Conrad sleeping/flirting with other women as a bid to protect Evanna? If so, how?

So many relationship broken due to lack of communication. Conrad knows how smart Evanna is. How could it have hurt his (unclear) plans to let her know: 'Part of my long-term goal is to have Crown Prince think me so-and-so. I may flirt but ...."?
