Well, she DID leave him behind with that disgrace of a "father" in the slums. She left him behind in a situation where his death was likely and his suffering garanteed. Longshot: This Evelyn character sees him as a blemish in her life instead as of someone to be cherished. The product of a affair she regrets or something like that. Something to stay buried you know?
