She has been deeply hurt by his words. I mean he told her Twice he hates her so of course she is protecting her heart From being broken again. He never told her he was sorry about all the nasty things he said and that he made a big mistake (admitting he was wrong) and that he wants to start fresh. That would be start in gaining her confidence in possibly having a more positive experience with him.
