at this point this novel feels more like The Tale of Hermoine Granger told by Harry Potter.. I know you already pointed out Harry and his mediocrity..and to hide his knowledge and abillities for the plot.. but can you at least make him more Intelligent / talented at least reaching the level of Hermoine... otherwise in my opinion it would feel like he's still depending on his plot armor / luck for defeating Voldemort and Dumbledore later on..
He has been doing nothing but preparing himself by learning anything and everything since he woke up again. He is only performing mediocrely in the school to keep it under radar. You have to understand that I am never saying that he is leaving all the work to Hermione, he is selling alongside her as they progress. He is able to keep up with her in studies and healing magic while simultaneously preparing himself for fights, dealing with the goblins, pushing the twins and much more. He and Hermione don't have the same things on their plate. He is spread thin and even after that he is just slightly behind Hermione in studies. Hermione on the other hand is a genius, and in my book she is more focused on improving her social interactions and growing. Harry on the other hand has to learn additionally about politics that come with his position and how to use them, all while being under Dumble's radar. This however cannot take apart the fact that she was her only true friend as she alone had nothing to gain from Harry and still stood beside him whether in original or in my book. Hope you understand or you can surely write again and I will be happy to explain more.
