Comments of chapter undefined of MC's not part of the story

too cliché to let him win? too stupid to let him lose actually. I'd say of all the novels I've read, when there was a tournament arc, no one ever let the mc win a match. well there are some who do that, but most of them didn't make mc win or the fight was interrupted by a third party. So I thought not winning was a cliché. So what did MC gain from this tournament arc? he didn't level up, he just fought opponents weaker than him. boring
