I think a great experience that would separate Emery from other instructors is for him to require his acolytes to develop an original spell, technique or battle art. I Imagine Emery having it a requirement for then to do before the end of their 3 years. The way I see it is Emery as weapon technique expert, klea as the spell creation expert, and Ashaka as the battle art expert. They would use their knowledge to give guidance to the students creating their own unique techniques specifically tailored to their own styles
