Except that he abandoned Earth independence wise when he joined that faction, betrayed thraxx twice, and has been shown to not really care about anything that is directly power realted.
MonkeyBone:Oh ok so Julian doesn't care that Thrax is killing Romans? Julian isn't at this point, an amoral individual who only cares about power? When has that been shown, at any point in the story? Give me a break. Thrax already avenged his wife, now he's just going on a rampage.

It's interesting to see that Julian is a coward, well really that's how it is looking. He will only actually fight if he is certain he can win, and won't actually fight head on, instead using tricks based in magic to thwart Thrax. It's surprising that he's so afraid to fight him, there's really no other way to look at it. I realise he's Julius Caesar, who gained the future notoriety, but still disappointed. It will be I teresting to see whst happens when they all meet up with Klea and Emery. đ€
