you are all missing a huge point... war has been ingrained in us humans for thousands of years.. any civilization that was able to create and maintain a kingdom, empire, etc will for sure know what a pincer attack is.. Alexander the great conquered the know world because of formations and battle tactics like these. that's how Rome did if after. now will they call it a pincer attack or just a two front attack.. those are not important. using modern lauguage to explain events is an authors best trick in using less words. (point being, author wrote 'pincer' and we all know what type of attack was suggested) right now the author is taking a out Briton having kingdoms before Rome discovered Briton. so if there was kingdoms there was for sure battle tactics like pincer attacks... second point was the medical side with the pulse. checking the pulse to see about sickness... that's iffy... medical history and even technological history has been discovered and lost so many times that it's very unknown what was known and what wasn't. it was known that medical (herbal) women /witches knew a great deal about the body, but that went against God, these people were deemed evil and witch hunts happened... killing/destruction of knowledge of all sorts happened many many times throughout history... really only the last few hundred years after the invention of the printing press was history truely recordered. and we kept knowledge moving forward and not relearning it all over again
I kind of keep wondering, isnt Emery a bit too smart for his time? this is like bronze age here, and someone at 15 wouldnt probably know about pincer attacks or checking someones pulse as that didnt exist. If he learns it at the academy, thats fine. But presently it seems like the setting is a bit forgotten. Just a tip!
