I just thought of something: if mc roommates do really care about his well being, why not have em all join his party for the night? He would be the one doing searching, they guarding. At the very least that would prevent ‘friendly fire’ from other Plant students with a quest. Sure, rather than mc, they wouldn’t get any quests/rewards, but it would increase his chances by a good margin.
