I think I get this Author point for the separation between Anne and Jack. it because Jack may not be able to wait for Anne to finished her education without doing anything to her which might make them to hate each other. Now that they met again, they will start afresh and by the time they got really married,Anne will be through with schooling and there won't be any excuse for her to avoid her husband.
