in reality one can only fight so many enemies on so many fronts for so long. the best course would be to pit these families against one another and the school. bring a few of the more moderate ones to your side and use them to help crush the rest. if they keep stretching themselves too thin it could bite them. im not saying dont fight just be smart. the author could also just make the portag win just cause he is the protag and just so awesome. that fine to do a few time but it is also good to show the protagonists cleverness. but yeah just a thought
