Why is author giving so much credit to nikolai? its getting annoying reading this ark because of him

I haven't played RE, but isn't Barry, a friend of Chris? is supposed to be a good guy, or is this a change due to Edward?

what the **** is this shit??? does this cockroach plan have so many things that can help him survive and to **** up Edward's live?? so is Barry and Jill held by gun point or Barry is a nasty dirty rat?? and why the **** is Jill at that place?? I thought she left after the train incident....hmm i thought it was strange she wasn't with Chris and Claire. the same for Barry I thought he left a long time ago, since the outbreak incident happen he was nowhere to be found, so I thought you know he has a family so he left the city at the first warning.
