Right now Commander Du is the most trustworthy person here cause he's entirely predictable. So, since we know he'll abandon the MC without knowledge of his powers, sharing that information would maintain their relationship. As an added incentive, the MC can refuse to fight the bird unless Commander Du agrees to fight it. I understand that the author wants the MC to run solo (otherwise he wouldn't keep killing companions) but right now it's optimal to join hands with the military, the scientists, and over a hundred awakened warriors. If he's still hesitant to share, there's another easier way to set up a betrayal or to not do that. He gets Commander Du to agree to wait until the MC loses the bird in the fog to destroy the core. In this scenario, destroying the core before the MC gets back is a valid betrayal cause there's not really a reason to do that unless you want the MC dead, or you could have the MC run into another bird and then have Commander Du get too close to the time limit and be forced to flee. Overall, this scene felt very forced and while it doesn't really conflict with the personality of the MC, he's not this stupid. sadge

wishful thinking. First the all, Commander Du was a soldier, he had his mission. His mission was to protect those scientists. MC was powerful, he knew it, but you think he would trust everything MC said? Hey, I got a book that gave me this power, if you want this power, then protect me. Do you seriously think he would believe this bullshit? The more he tried to negotiate with the military, the more it would make MC look like a desperate man who needed a help from other people. And to abandon his main mission over a desperate man? I don't think anyone would be that stupid.
