i can see that the author wanted to make us see the Duke and the son behavior with the prejudice eyes of Evelyn. she remembers her last life and how she was abused by her last family, so she thinks that this family is like the last family because of the indifference of the father and the mischievous comments of the brother. the problem is that here there is a reason for this behavior: the death of the late duchess. the father is a person who have difficulty to express his feelings and when lost his love he have necessity to have some time for himself to overcome the death of his wife. but this resulted in him be more indifferent and cold with his children (is not like he have lovely dovely rapport with the son). but he is not like the father of the other life, he is interested in the life of is children (every time Evelyn is injured she has the best cure. Evelyn and Allan have every need satisfated). the brother remember the mother so know the situation. but he is alone in this situation. his only ally, his sister, "escaped" with the lost of memories and so he is angry and how a adolescent react in this situation? mean comments and angry with the person who he think disappointed him (the sister). Evelyn lost six years of memories of her life. she doesn't know what happen, but remember her last life and use her prejudices for the family love she know to apply at this family. so she thinks only to escape and think that only her suffer. anyway, I want to write that this is what i understand of the story. I don't know if is true because I like the plot of the story, but the author should decided if she/he want to write from the point of views of Evelyn in third person; or be a oniscent write and write everything in third persone. is confused some time, because the author pass from one point of view at another without a apparent logic (for exemplar many times I have to read more than once to understand that the father never think that he hate his daughter, but it is the person he talks to who interpret so his words. or the brother who with his comments some times seem to hate more that Evelyn doesn't remember than anything else).
