At the same time maddie must be wishing for the earth to part and engulf her all along. I doubt that Mr. Heathcliff must be having some ill intentions towards maddie.

Madeline doesnt even know James well enough to have the feelings she has for him. They have barely shared enough words and havnt spent anytime together. Maybe if she gave Calhoun a chance she’d realize she likes him. But at the same time i feel like shes purposely avoiding the feelings because she doesnt want the extravagant life the king offers. 😩
