Your "Editors and Proofreader"(pronounced "slaves") seem to be slacking off. I think that they still have some free will left in them... So, you should definitely hear out their complaints. Whatever action you take afterwards (to help them or to "help" them) is completely up to you though...
also, in the US, just because they don't read you the miranda rights when they put the cuffs on you, doesn't mean you can get off. best thing you can do is comply with all instructions, keep your mouth shut, and ask for your lawyer/wait for one to be provided.
