not even 10 chapters in and im already done with this book. I just can't do it anymore. for any author in the future who reads this: no strong independent talented capable female lead is just going to blindly agree to marry someone because her parents want it. when you write a character living away from their family by themselves for 12 years and have them come back and suddenly be close to their family and obedient to all of their marriage schemes It's unrealistic. I'm not saying you'd be very realistic and a fictional novel but you usually put the bare minimum into it. I don't care how many times you write it and in which way you write it when you write that someone has an engagement from when they're a baby but they are totally okay with it because their parents totally meant well that is utter bullshit. unless it is a historical or fantasy novel It makes no damn sense to write anything in the modern era about mysterious rich families selling their children to other mysteries rich families for business connections or whatever. come at me if you want. But that's what it is. selling your child. furthermore it's not even a parent said it but the damn grandparents. And don't tell me it's a cultural thing. I know China likes to purchase women who have been trafficked and has a big problem with that crap but there's no way in hell anybody with a healthy family dynamic would agree to set up a marriage for their infant daughter and then comply with it. And there's no way in hell a modern woman would simply comply with it just because she was obedient and close to a family she hasn't lived within 12 years. And I don't care that the whole gimmick behind this is that she's going to go to the school and get to know the guy behind the scenes or whatever. from the very beginning this premise has rubbed me the wrong way. I'm over it
I understand your point but I hope before you make an opinion, you will understand the story first. There are reasons for when the female lead was forced to stay away from her family, and also the engagement. Here, no one is forcing her to get married immediately instead they are only informing her so that she can make a choice. Also, just because her grandma made a marriage agreement with other family doesn't mean she is selling her granddaughter, instead there is a reason behind that which will be revealed later on. So I hope you wouldnt make a judgement without prior knowledge.
