Well I have a theory about Alex identity. I believe that everyone already guessed that Alex has connections in the underword. He is a powerful person there. But it would not explain why eve the royal is feared of him even would tolerate that their daughter would die at his hands. I suspect that Alex is the true heir. What I mean is that he is the son of the former ruler who probably might be assisinated. However, he declined the position therefore some distant relatives claimed the throne. The current royal family. Though he declined his legal rights his origin as the true heir can not be declined. He will always be threat to the royal family. He could easily start a rebellion. Therefore all the allies of the royal family observe him. That is also the reason why he is not allowed to love. If he would love it would be his weakness which they could use. Maybe it is also a custom of the kingdom that the true heir tatoos the national symbol the dragon at his back. I don't know whether you guys know Yugio- oh. But I watched it as a child. Marek and his ancestors were forced to tatoo their back with the inscriptions of the prophecy of pharao which was a custom in egypt. So maybe here it is the same.
