While not a trash bag, polyester fabric, basically fabric made from plastic only, was popular in the 70s. So technically plastic clothing was a thing. Regardless part of me wants to see the adventures of Sophie fighting entrenched academia to correct history. Also Sophie could absolutely copy any ancient Earth band and present it as her own I'd she wanted.
