A katana will not shatter and if they did try , it's Highly unlikely. katanas are considered the best sword because of its production method (the way it's heated) truth be told yes a katana would be ineffective on heavy armor (chainmail), but light body armor it can slice you in half. It's even possible to pierce thru plated armor (not likey but possible)

MotivatedSloth:Once again, Batorówka, or Hungarian/Sigusmundian sabre is proved to be far more universal weapon. Put a samurai against typical soldier who knew how to move around with sabre, and in terms of raw equipment alone, sabre would win. Not because it was superior in all aspects, because in some super-specific scenarios (like cutting wet bamboo sheets) katana could prove to be better, but when it came to blasting through thick cloth of gambeson, often a chainmail (because let's be honest, against a plate armour only the handle of the early sword or blunt weapons could do literally ANYTHING) half of the enemy and all of that without really losing its edge. Try that with a Katana (if you can afford to shatter a real one for the sake of experiment, good luck wasting your money). Overall, let me repeat this once again. Katana is overrated. Asian (and most of the existing) "fighting" arts (not using martial cuz I often misspell it as marital xD) are overrated and only effective in a specific scenario. Katana could work only because of the specific closed area where it was used, literally everyone else in the world was using other weapons because when it came to reality, using swords that took weeks to be finished was simply inefficient in terms of meatgrinding.

Realistically mc is going to be burned on the stake

I agree in part, I do not believe that Elia should die, but certainly diminish her appearances in history and moments with excessive romanticism, it gets a little sick and we lost other things in history that are more pleasing, such as technological developments and even more focus on mc proprio instead of no mc and their love relationship.

Regarding the method of sword production, you see, the Japanese process is not completely ineffective, just look at the production of damask steel, one of the most beautiful and strong that we can do today, it requires stacking layers of steel, weld, and during the manufacturing process, fold in several layers, similar to the manufacture of the ingot for katanas and other Japanese swords, of course there are several other methods, but this still shows that the essence is not something totally inefficient just as the author said.

I thank you for the chapter.

The story is such a slow burner... I guess that is what makes the story more realistic, and because of that I have not seen the many things that plague novels of this genre...
