Sigh. I don't know where this would go. I don't want any of the Chinese nationalistic nonsense. Nor the racism. Even though I know racism is a never-ending problem for any country. And I know that these webnovels are made for the Chinese audience... and to pass the censors you need sh*t like those... I just don't want it to go full-on supremacist...
It's interesting the black students were wrong for taunting and teasing him but sorry you're a grown man now. The minute you decide to put your hands on someone you're at fault. His own actions got him in trouble whether the teacher was black or any other race you physically assaulted someone. This is supposed to be the modern world not some fantasy where might means right.
Okay a tip to anyone.. its almost always bad to start a story with rasism, thats remodly related to the time frame we have today!.. but if its like a fantasy world or a couple of hundred years or more ago, or even in the future.. or settings like in the middle age.. then the rasism would be more understod... Unlike here!..
If this is taking place in the 90's (the synopsis said 1988? He's using a payphone, but Forrest Gump was from 1994, so I'm guessing 90's), then none of the racism described in this chapter is out of place. Society has changed a lot in just a couple of decades, but it really wasn't that long ago when things were like that.
I know racial discrimination is a very real thing. Seen it, dealt with it myself. But is it possible to not have it in a novel we’re reading for fun? Maybe in a more dramatic, realistic novel but I doubt this will be one. More of a faceslapping comedy I’d presume. Okay I digressed a little but I know faceslapping is very popular. We even got an event made for it #inyourface. But there’s gotta be other ways then racism to establish a characters backstory and reason for faceslapping, right? That was rhetorical btw, there are plenty of other ways.
