It's clear to me that the author has no clue of the sheer amount of labour required to cloth, clean, water, and especially to feed a family. The average peasant mother is working from dawn to dusk every day. The family needs to get water from the closest well, firewood to make a fire, no mention of a mill, so what berries need to be ground, ... No mention of the source of cloth, that is the author hasn't mentioned linen, otherwise known as flax, or sheep for wool, or cotton, all of which has to be processed in some way to make something like thread that then needs to be woven into a cloth and then if you're rich dyed some colour. Btw, what is normally planted in the fall and the freezing and thawing tends to help break down the casing of grain and it's mature in about 7 to 8 months. Author has not mentioned water once so far. In this kind of medieval, semi rural environment, the highest priority to preserve your population and improve their health, would be to clean the wells, dig new wells, create proper drainage, and teach basic hygiene.
