I don't think you should change it. The story actually fine like this. But then again, how you wanted to potrait her also ok. I think if possible just redirect the plot to the correct one, but still continuing from what you've posted til now. Changing the story in the middle is not advisable imo.
Depends on where do you want the story go. It's like asking to choose between coffee and chocolate... Incomparable and different results with something in common: tasty xD
