Day 303 Year 3 | I believe it to be intuitive as long as one understands the concepts of light rays and field of view. If an object like a hand is infront of the eye it obscures most of the light from other stuff. Thus the hand fills most of the field of view and thus appeares larger. If the object is further away it obscures less of the field of view and such more other stuff is visible. Thus the hand relative to the field of view is smaller and as such appeares smaller.
