Oh please no, he just became more mature, don't go the rotten self-reflection "what's really important" route. You either look at the grand scheme of things and become a proper ruler, or don't bother with taking over the government in the first place and remain the average joe centered on "daddy-mommy-nakama_power". Faxul can suck it up and stop being a baby - it's already set in stone that the raven country is going down after their leader tried to pull the fast one with ecoterrorism. Not to mention they all died ~2 decades ago, not recently, have some bloody patience. His parents aren't gonna die from being "neglected" for a month after a goddamn REVOLUTION when the first priority is to consolidate power and stave off the vultures wanting to tear the weakened country apart. Otherwise it would be THEIR heads on the pikes if a secind coup comes along. Johan can go suck a leaky banger. If he needed the convict so much and knew that D isn't going to hand him over, he should've stolen the noble from the jail where no one would see. But nooo, let's do it in front of a crowd, effectively slapping the newly crowned king in the face, undermining the trust serfs have for him and making way for a 2nd concecutive kidnapping. Seriously, screw self-reflection trope, screw it with a rusty pipe.
Jesus it just feels like Jonah is manipulating him. I see the problem here with the church. But the MC is always dragged around by someone else and canât come to his own conclusion, like itâs not a 100% sure thing. But he always had the most violent reactions instead of taking everything with a pinch of salt.
He says that he was being blinded by power and ignoring his parents (passively, by trying to fix an unstable kingdom previously rulled by a power hungry king). But wouldn't he be more selfish by spending more time with his parents, instead of growing his kingdom, aiding of hundreds of thousands of lives? Of course there should be a delicate balance, but this MC never fails to surprise me with his logic in... everything, really.
