I’m having an issue here. If he doesn’t want to live with Huiling and can not touch her in any way how can this equate to wanting a marriage? From what I can tell from what the author has written he has always given in to her because she is spoiled and because of her family, so he has always denied his own true feelings. So I think this is part of the root cause of his illness, which also got a transference to all women. I guessing she must have been very clingy when they were younger. We still need more information in order to deduce the whole cause of his illness.

His illness aside, I doubt anyone would feel comfortable being around a woman like Huiling. I get that she's upset and all. But I don't know, her attiude just bothers me 🤔

I think he's feeling more grateful rather than really love Huiling. She stood by him even though his condition prevents them from being physical, so he wanted to repay her in some way.
