This is actually not as great a deal for the humans as it may look. I was just thinking the other day that a city in the dungeon would need to carefully calculate how much of their entrances to leave open to a wave. Too much and they'll be overwhelmed, but too little and their guards won't get enough experience fighting. By completely taking care of the wave the ants are totally denying the humans the experience and cores from the monsters being spawned. Sure they're safer, but the humans aren't getting any growth from this. And over time they'll actually get weaker as their current fighters get too old. That's absolutely to the benefit of the ants as they get all the benefits of the wave and make the humans even more dependent on them. But it does not help the humans. Not only because they'll have a weaker position at the bargaining table, but because they'll be less able to send out adventurers to gain materials even between waves.
So, if I'm not wrong this city is in the first strata...which means that it in an optimal place for "wave" farming. I can't wait to read about what facial expressions Wallace will have when he will hear that the Colony is making farms and treating the wave as a boon for expansion rather than something dreadful that they must defend against (at least in the first strata that is)
This sort of person needs a reality check and Wallace gave him it. The real thing is when you remove a despot like him most times citizens hang their heads on a spike and call it a day. He knows it to and he knows nobody but the ones in power would want him back in power because then they keep the power they had. It's a common thing seen in the real world actually. Somebody who got into a position of power and does whatever he can to keep it. Either by buying large groups of political power and favors or lying and scheming to keep it among other things such as using people to get his way it just depends.
