I think I understand what is going on ....this class rep is a rich guy who wants to enact the fantasy of a pure orphan Cinderella meets prince charming.....he wants to be in a relationship where the woman has no status so he can play hero to her damsel while he turns her into an object of pity....the way he ordered for her without considering whether she likes it, and only caring about feeding her something more sophisticated tells me that he doesn't respect her opinions as an equal....she is his charity project who he is investing into, expecting great returns because he does acknowledge her potential....so he gets a great trophy wife without status ....and a strong employee for his family business, but despite her being his intellectual superior, he will always hold a dominant position in their relationship. BTW I really hate how he confessed to her in public with the roses....not only was it insensitive towards the girl confessing to him, he also put lots of pressure on her to accept and unofficially staked his claim in front of their peers....I don't like this guy....he isn't EVIL, but still no good as a potential romantic partner....
