It's best to have a dedicated command & communication platform that is separated out into multiple units. This is to avoid bombardment and add redundancy to the system. You don't want a lucky artillery hit to take out your whole C&C. Even if the commander is down you still need the communication and command has to pass on to another unit.

They should ask the main client (V. Casella) what she wants to see in her mech. They should include her in those talks for crying out loud, then take their cue from her suggestions, that way ⅓ of their problem is solved.
