Wait... The Larkinsons have a LOT of 3rd rate pilots still. And Ves is still officially a citizen of a 3rd class State. And the LMC has a lot of 3rd Class mech offerings. Are they eligible to go to the "3rd Class Hub" and enter THOSE tournaments? The prizes wouldn't be directly as valuable, but ships are still ships! (Or they could trade those valuable ships for contracts and materials)
That's fair, but you're forgetting something. If we look at the competition prize pools. They generally consist of combat carriers and capital class fleet carriers. So, we can safely assume that even in third-class regions the prize pools should be the same albeit a class lower. This is really important to remember. There are actual differences between those regions. The more resource-rich second-class regions have enviroments that are absolutley inhospitable to third-class ships and their FTL drives. Furthermore, their range and speed would serverly handicap the Larkinson Fleet's maneuvers. Which I believe should be absolutley intolerable to Ves's paranoia and desire for freedom.
Esther_Merriken:Waaayyy back when the Red Ocean Gate was first announced - it mentioned that the different "Classes" were allowed to enter each other's areas. But there would be rules in place for higher classes not to bully lower. Or for lower classes not to wander where they weren't invited and expect some sort of "diplomatic immunity" due to the non-bullying rules. So I'd expect rules along the lines of regulating implants for the pilots and tech levels for the mechs. Possibly rules about implants for the mech design competitions too. And I'd expect 2nd Class forces not to try all that often because the drasitic limits on what they were used to would be a severe handicap. (Remember wayyy back in the Bright Futures contest when the Fridaymen kid threw a hissy fit because he lost?)
