I think that the MTA and CFA original ingredients were the previously superior alien races because some of them if I remember correctly were mentioned to have extraordinary psionic based powers which is how they essentially have dominion over the galaxy before the humans raised up through the use five scrolls and technologies that the aliens don't have.
