Terrans quickly found out that the Aylos tended to be pacifists, so they outright stole their FTL technology before waging war on them. At their final moment, the space whales made a desperate plea for their species to live on, rather than be wiped out from existence. Through extensive genetic manipulation, they developed the aeliotonoc whales from the carcass of the once-majestic Aylos species. Humanity saw it as a final humiliation for a species they vanquished. So after reading this, i probably won't feel any emotions what so ever if an alien race brings an entire start sectors human race to the point of extinction. Then degrades the survivors into cave men for entertainment purposes. It would probably be just a random footnote in the history books of that alien race anyways
So humanity basically wiped out the species for no reason after they won? being waterdwellers they weren't even in competition for living space, not after their technological/ production base was destroyed, I wonder if there is more to the story or its just the author setting mankind up as retarded warmongerers in typecal wuxia fashion? If so its disappointing, since we've mostly had a nuanced view of mankind as capable of great evils to gain what we want, not a race of psychos fine with murdering billions out of hand for zero gain. I suppose being genocidal maniacs could be one reason mankind is seemingly isolated from the alien species surrounding them..
Reminds me of my first time playing Stellaris, before 1.0. First aliens I found were fanatic peaceful / spiritual space cats. I was using hyperlane ftl travel and started with missles. they had warp drives and started with lasers (my ideal start but I liked doing random start.) So I started a war just to steal their technology.
This is a direct reflection of what happens when a warmongering, weak, pathetic, Eurasian centric culture of mankind gains the ability of space flight. They see no evil in what they do because it is what they have always done. This is the end result of a culture that believes in the scarcity of all things even if it is an illusion.
