Chapter 4- Protege

{Edward POV}

When I got out of the bakery I saw my son covered in dirt and foot prints. I panicked and rushed to see if he was ok.

"Hey son are you okay?"- Said Edward.

"Yes Dad, just some bully don't worry about it, their kicks doesn't even hurt that much" Said Rex assuring his father.

"Really? I'm sorry I shouldn't have left you, come on, let's go patch you back at home"- Said Edward facing down in shame while walking back to their abode.

'Why!? Why can't I protect my son!? Why am I such a coward!? I've decide I'll train him to the bones, so that he can protect himself and his own family, not like me' Edward thought with resolution, clenching fist as he remembered his pathetic self.

When they got home the Father and son got straight to the shower, and on the way to the bathroom, they bumped into Elena.

"Rex!?, what happened to you!?, are you okay!?, a-are you hurt!?" Asked the worried Mother.

"It's nothing Mom, I just tripped and dirtied myself" Rex smiled lying on what really happened.

Though his lying was caught by his mother when her husband was clenching his hands as if he was angry at something.

Knowing what happened to Rex, she hugged Rex and said.

"Welcome home, let's eat dinner, you guys go and shower" Elena said trying to hold her tears.

"Ok!" Rex replied, but did not mention seing his mother cry, they will have to go through this. They just have to wait, he will find a way.

Sobs escaped the dinner table as Elena felt the pain of being shunned.

They ate their dinner and then went to bed, no words spoken of the incident...

Morning came, and Edward wakes up Rex to come down to their backyard.

Rex arrived and Edward said.

"Son, I think it's time even though I still think you are young I know deep down you are ready. Now, we will practice your sword skills, we wont stop until your sword skills is acceptable" Said Edward grabbing a wooden sword from the rack and giving it to Rex.

In this world, Sword skills are detrimental to your survival, such techniques that was mentioned in the Books Edward owns, was Quick Draw, Fast Thinking, and Sharp Swings.

Surviving past the fourth country proved to be a challenge, only a little bit of people reached the fourth country, Wraith's plague the lands, and they are etherel, challenging your will to fight. In this barren land, Wraith's will try to get your soul. The only way to beat them is by pure power and speed. They use daggers while tormenting your mind to quickly kill you.

Knowing the dangers of being a Journeyman Rex's resolve strengthened.

"Now, you will swing that wooden sword 100 times, Vertically, Horizontally, and Upwards. When you are done, Meditate to ease your body and mind, calming your nerves and heart, to recuperate better I will impart you with an importance of breathing" Said Edward.

"Yes Dad" Rex replied

{Edward POV}

'My son is a Genius!. Each swing is getting firmer and firmer just after a swing. I could see the improvement, if he did this for a month, his progress will be twice than that!. My son is a protégé!,' Edward thought with joy seeing his son with the talent to surpass him.

From what he could remember, Rex walked when he's only a month's old!, he talked a year a month's later and he can even read better than other noble kids! I am glad to have a son to be proud of, even if he was not a genius I'll still love him.

{3rd POV}

You could see a Father and son enjoying their sword practice. This is rare in some places, this planet is plagued by fame and power that they forgot a small detail and a huge mistake. Being with your parents, doing something together even if it looks small, you will understand the word family.

The sun sets down and Rex forgot to see if he got anything happening in his system.
