Day 35

When I entered Kyle's room, his younger brother January was there. January wasn't speaking with Kyle and was reading a book quietly near Kyle's bedside.

Kyle's eyes glittered as I entered the room. "January, Renata is here so you can go now." January looked up and snapped his book shut.

"Hello Renata, how are you today?" asked January politely.

I smiled as I said, "I'm happy you came again to visit, Kyle." January's cheeks reddened with silent pleasure while Kyle snorted.

"Well, I'm not. Besides, January isn't here by choice."

January frowned at Kyle before giving me a neutral expression. "It's true. My parents insisted I visit him so they dropped me off outside. I have another hour here."

"Yup! Why mom or dad couldn't stop by themselves leaves me at a loss for words. Parents of the year, those two."

Even though I tried to remain neutral, January gave me a sad smile. "You're disappointed, aren't you?"

"Yes. My mom has more love for me than both of your parents put together and I'm adopted."

"Fuck, I wish I was adopted!" exclaimed Kyle.

January looked at the card in my hands. "Why does that card say thirty-five at the front?"

"Because it's my thirty-fifth birthday, duh." Kyle reached his hand out for it, "You can leave if you want."

"I'm too intrigued," replied January.

Kyle rolled his eyes before opening his birthday card. "Chaos has become your life, but you can't stop smiling. You have one bundle of joy and your oldest who's entering elementary school." Kyle showed his younger brother the inside of the card, "Renata colored the bundle of joy yellow again. I can't have two hermaphrodite babies in a row, Renata!"

January glanced at me. "So now you tell futures?"

"So what if I do?" I asked him back.

"It's quite imaginative," said January as politely as he could. Kyle sighed as his lips became a thin line.

"Tell us how you really feel, lil bro."
