1 Year of Beginning

“Give me one year of your life and I’ll give you the money you need.” Feng Mian is a normal and down to earth modern woman. She just wanted an ordinary life, an ordinary job and find an ordinary man to marry in the future. (Yes, all should be ordinary). But when family matters took a turn for the worst, she faced a huge dilemma called shortage of money. Suddenly, a contract came due to a series of coincidences. Zhang Liang was fed up with his father's (yes, father not mother) matchmaking schemes for him. He wanted to have a peaceful year because this was his chance to expand his business overseas, yet his father didn’t seem to get the message. When an ordinary fresh graduate employee in his company accidentally saw a scene, he decided to take the chance. “Since she has a normal background with nothing remarkable, nothing should go wrong, right?” Browsing through the contract, Feng Mian gritted her teeth. 'Fine. It was just one year of my life anyway. I wouldn't lose a lot.' But was it true? Or would that one year turn out to be a ride full of ups and down for both of them? ... Story set in modern era in fictional country. This story is purely fiction, any similarities with real life's event is purely coincidence. Eating Out

Zhang Liang walked until the end of the corridor before taking out his phone. "Father."

"If you don't bring her along…."

"I'm with Mian'er right now. Are we going to eat in the restaurant or in Zhang Family's Main Mansion?"

"Oh," Zhang Yi's words paused for a moment. He thought that his son would give him another excuse, but it seemed that Zhang Liang had already given in to his threat.

"We're gathering in the Main Mansion. Xiao Ai is determined to decorate the backyard and have dinner under the night sky."

Thinking of his little sister, Zhang Liang nodded. He knew that Zhang Ai was the only one who could possibly come up with such an idea. "I'll be going there."

"Alright. Don't be late, you brat!"

Zhang Liang hung up and glanced at Feng Mian. "We're going to eat lunch first before going there. The Main Mansion is located in the Capital City, so the journey alone takes three hours at best on this day."

During New Year, a lot of people would be going home, so the traffic would be very heavy. Even public transportation might take a long time to take the passengers to their destination unless they were using a train. But of course, the crowd would be astonishing as well.

Feng Mian nodded. "What are we going to eat?"

"Something simple."

Zhang Liang was not that picky about food. The two headed to the restaurant on the other side of the street and had their meal there. Thankfully, there didn't seem to be any reporters around as people usually only worked for half a day in some restaurants. Most were closed, so it was quite lucky for them to find one that was still open. Though, Zhang Liang did wear a cap to hide his features.

"Will that cap be enough?" Feng Mian pointed to the cap that Zhang Liang suddenly took out.

"It's the one less conspicuous."

Thinking that they would eat outside, it was indeed the most suitable. If he wore a mask, he wouldn't be able to eat properly. In addition, he no longer wore his suit and just t-shirt, so he looked fairly normal. Feng Mian had to admit that his face is still very dangerous, though.

"Will you book a VIP room again?"

"No need. The journey will take a long time, so I don't want to waste time."

Feng Mian nodded. "Ok."

The two picked a seat near the window. The waitress looked nervous when she saw Zhang Liang. Feng Mian was not sure whether it was because Zhang Liang was handsome or because of the cold aura he emitted. Even though Zhang Liang didn't glare or frown, he gave a slight aura that allowed people to not disturb him.

Feng Mian wondered if it was because he was a leader that he could make such a posture and gesture. It was no wonder that no one in the company dared to mess up with Zhang Liang. He knew how to make them naturally fear him because of his attitude.

Zhang Liang ordered some food for them. He noticed that Feng Mian was looking at him when he handed the menu back to the waitress.

"What is it?"

"You look so natural," Feng Mian replied. "That waitress even trembled in excitement."

Zhang Liang frowned and glanced to the side. He shook his head. "It doesn't matter what they think about me. She should just do her job well."

"Indeed."

Sneaking a glance from the corner of her eyes, Feng Mian knew that the waitress might be fangirling. As a girl herself, she knew for sure that they had noticed Zhang Liang's face and probably recognized him since he was famous in his field. If she was in their shoes, she might also talk a bit more to her friends.

Upon seeing the waitress who came to their direction, Feng Mian had to do everything she could to not laugh. The waitress purposely unbuttoned her top button. It made her look a bit alluring as a woman.

Zhang Liang's face obviously darkened. Even though there was no apparent change in his expression, the aura he omitted seemed colder.

"Here's the food. Enjoy." The waitress winked towards Zhang Liang, her body was leaned forward.

"Thank you," Feng Mian was the one who replied while Zhang Liang just moved the plate to his front.

The waitress gave a sidelong glance to her. She wanted Zhang Liang to answer, but the man didn't even acknowledge her presence. Just as she was about to speak again, her friend called for her.

"Is it that funny?" Zhang Liang arched his eyebrows.

Feng Mian waved her hand. She was trying to hold back her laughter. "Well, it's not every day I can see a woman try to hit on a man like you."

Zhang Liang shook his head. "You'll get used to it."

"…Did it happen every time?"

"What do you think?"

Feng Mian thought to herself and shook her head again. It would be better if she didn't try to think about it. It was clear that the man before her was already on the verge of exploding just because of her remarks.

Her eyes lowered as she focused on her food.

In front of her, Zhang Liang merely looked at her for a few seconds before returning. With that the two of them ate in silence.
