1 Bridge of souls | Chapter 1a.

I can still see the truck as it rolled over the bonnet of my car and for the smallest fraction of a second immeasurable pain before all turned to darkness, my death undoubtedly and yet I feel a sense of relief as my worldly problems are cut off.

Even as I raise my hand in front of my face I cannot see or feel its touch upon my cheek, is this what death is like I wonder in uncertainty but before my mind could stray to a darker place the boom of thunder awoke me and now, I found myself standing upon a bridge illuminated by the gloomy light that pierced the grey sea of clouds.

"What… where am… MY HAN… my arm…!" a sharp screech of a girl reaches my ears as I turn to face the source of sound and standing beside me in a row were three humanoid shaped masses of white, no doubt the one at the end on the right side of the bridge was the suspect.

I am strangely calm and I find that unsettling being someone in life who was afraid of the unknown and uncertain at nearly every step, it is only when I look down upon my own arms that were similarly white to the other three that my calmness was stolen away as I failed to take one step back and fell upon my arse.

The bridge had a massive break in the centre that prevented one from continuing in that direction but most terrifying was the swirling vortex of white that fragments of the bridge close to our feet fell into being instantly dissolved upon contact, I wasn't sure if I could still sweat with my body now being made of some sort of white material but I sure could feel myself sweating.

"This… this is reincarnation isn't it! Ha ha-ha ha!" the nearest white being next to me sounded like a young punk in his teenage years looking out his barely contained excitement for what I could only assume to be our predicament considering my untimely ending, I'm not saying I wouldn't have considered such an outcome but my mind was occupied with other thoughts.

"Youngster… this is clearly our judgement to see if we will go onto heaven or… hell, do you not see our judge standing before us?" an elderly and gentle voice comes from the second white being from me as he points behind me.

I still being on my arse from the scare of the vortex I swear was trying to pull me in tilt my head upside down to see a similar humanoid being standing behind us only it seem to be made out of a black material instead, when I looked upon it I could only describe my feelings as conflicted as merely looking at it made me feel conflicting things such as comfort and at the same time discomfort but my ease of maintaining my calm allowed me to dust myself off and stand back up without breaking my gaze upon the black being.

Surprisingly it would be the girl that had been panicking about her white appearance that would be the first to speak to the black being standing before the four of us, "wher… who… no what is going on?" she spoke with toward the black being with a trace of her panic having seemingly calmed herself a degree or perhaps she too had the same strange sense of calm I was experiencing overtaking my other feelings.
