1 Second Chance

"Young one, wake up!"

In a white space void of life lay a young girl floating in the air, her long her dancing to the waves that brew around the space and her face peaceful as ever. Her face suddenly twitches and her eyes shut open, bringing to visibility her red big eyes.

She looks around the place with a confused face and tries to get up only to find out that she is floating in the air.

"Where is this place? I thought I died? And why am I in the body of a girl?" she asks while scrutinising herself.

"You finally came around? I was about to send you to the land of souls before you opened your eyes, you are indeed lucky!"

The girl looks ahead only to see the figure of a masked man sitting on an invisible chair. His white and black hair dancing in the air, a dark-golden aura emitting from him and on his left hand a long scythe. The man had his face masked and so the girl is unable to see his face.

"Who are you, sir? And where is this place?" The girl asks earning a chuckle from the figure.

"Confused right? Oh well, I'll help you. I am the God of death and life and this place is my place, you are here because I brought you here after your death. You must be wondering why you are in the body of a girl, that is because there is no good body for you except this girl's. I have been following both of you for quite some time before your death and there is something similar to the both of you and that is revenge, the two of you died almost in the same manner and at the same time.

Unfortunately, her end has come, fate didn't give her a chance to live but as for you, it did. You will live in this body now as a girl and you will start your life all over again, this is the chance I'm giving to you. As the God of death and life, I have lived for ages and I'm tired already, I want to rest forever but before that, I need to transfer my great powers to my successor which will be you."

"Me? B-but how?" The girl asks with a bewildered look on her face, the last piece of information came too fast for her to understand.

"Yes, you! It might come as a surprise but I have no other choice besides I'm giving you a chance to start your life afresh and this time you'll have the opportunity to be powerful unlike in your past life where you were treated like scum and beaten to death. In this life, you will have powers to protect yourself from being killed, I'll give you the power of life and death."

"I am not worthy sir," the girl replies still confused. 'First I was killed then I find myself in the body of a girl, now, I am about to be given some powers?' So many thoughts filled the girl's head as she keeps staring at the seated figure.

"I understand your thoughts but you have nothing to worry about, you should be happy that I have found favour in you or else you should have been sent to the land of souls immediately after your death....once there, there is no coming out and no second chance. Are you ready to become my messenger of death?"

After thinking for a while, the girl agreed. "Yes I am ready!" she replies.

"Then come here," the figure says and waves his hands in the air. The girl floated down and walked up to the figure, standing before him. "I will give you a system that will help you in your journey, once you reach the level of Godhood it will disappear. The system will as you grow strong give you the chance to many evolution choices, so you have to work hard. When you reach my level, I will finally leave for good," the figure after talking stood up and floated to where the girl is standing.

He places his hands on the girl's head and a faint light entered her head. "Argh!" the girl yells while holding her head as pain surged into her head.

"It'll be painful, sorry I didn't tell you that earlier," the figure blurted out with a chuckle causing the girl to glare at him. "Oh, a little attitude I see!" he said and walked back to his invisible chair. The figure silently watched as the girl kept holding her aching head until the pains subsided a little.

"I feel somewhat strong," the girl mumbled to herself.

"Yes, you will. Everything is settled now, you will go and start living your life but don't forget to work hard in making yourself strong," the figure said and waved his hands again. The girl disappeared from there and the figure let out a relieved sigh and relaxed back on his chair. "Finally, I'll have a peaceful rest," he said to himself.

"Master, are you sure about this?" a man asked as he materialized beside the figure.

"Yes, I am! And get ready, in a few years you will become her servant," the figure said with a wide grin.

"Yes, master."

In a town with people walking around, a girl materialises around a corner and looks around. "This place is a town, much better than the one in my previous life," she says still looking around. "I have nowhere to stay, I need an Inn but I've got no money...." just when the girl is still mumbling to herself about having no place to stay, she turns and sees an old lady trying to lift a bag on her head.

She rushes to the woman without thinking twice and approaches her. "Mam, let me help you, lead the way and I'll follow behind," she says to the lady who genuinely smiled and begins to lead the way.

After walking for close to 30 minutes, the lady stops before an apartment and knocks at the gate.

"Mam, are you sure there is someone at home? you've been knocking for five minutes yet no one has come to open the gate," the girl says to the lady who just smiled and continued to knock at the gate.

Just after the tenth knock, the gate was finally opened revealing a girl the same age as the other one with the lady. She stood there at the gate with her hands on the waist, she glared at both the lady and the girl behind her.

"I told you to go with the keys that I'll be training today at the training room but what did you do? You left without it and now you've made me stop my training halfway," the girl said glaring at the lady. The lady bowed to show her respect but the girl was not done yet.

"You are stupidly dumb so how would I know what you are saying in your mind whenever you bow..."

'So she is dumb? it's no wonder!' the girl who followed the lady said inwardly as she watched in silence what is going on.

"And you, who are you? What are you doing here?"
