The three of them remained silent at that. It was Xie Ai who shook his head and broke the silence as he stood up, dusting off his knees. "That folktale…."

"That's true. It's completely different in the instance."

In the original folktale, a little boy, born of a demon lord, was devoutly righteous, mainly because of his mother's influence. He went to the forest to meditate at the age of five. When he returned, he had completely changed and couldn't be called the son of a demon.

His father, being angry at his own son following the righteous path, started ordering the little kid to be killed. He was either thrown off a cliff, locked in a room full of poisonous snakes, or pushing him into fire. Neither of them could kill the kid as the deity saved him.

In the end, the demon king was killed by the deity the little kid was worshipping, ridding the world of a cruel demon lord.

Originally, this was the way the folktale should have gone, but what was up with the kid himself destroying the shrine like this? Wasn't he supposed to worship just like in the folktale?

That was the thing that made him the most uncomfortable.

"Let's go. We should get back. It's getting dark." Qi Jingguo looked at the sky and frowned, feeling a little out of it at the moment.

Xie Ai felt a shiver down his spine after hearing those words. He instantly put the pill in his mouth. The moment he swallowed, his growling stomach calmed down as he felt he had eaten his fill. His eyes widened.

That pill was indeed magical!

They walked back to their rooms. The three of them also heard the sound of footsteps coming through the corridor. People chattered in low voices, but since the duo ignored them, Xie Ai also followed and kept staying in the room, laying on his bunk.

Soon, the guards came over to make one last round before turning off the lights in the corridor. They shut the doors of every room and walked away without saying a word.

Night creepers screamed in their full glory, seemingly creating a beautiful melody that could have been enough to lull anyone to sleep, but in this horror instance, it only sent a shiver down Xie Ai's spine. The three didn't talk about anything after coming back, especially not about the shrine events, being careful not to let others hear a word about them.

In these instances, it was rare to find comrades, or even friends turning against one another for greed. What to say about these strangers they never met?

It was just that as the night darkened, a sense of terror throbbed deeply into Xie Ai's bones, and he trembled from head to toe. He knew what was coming, but he had to confirm the real identity of that little kid.

If not, he knew that he would go crazy!

Sure enough, a small hand pressed onto his chest just like before as someone emerged from his blanket.

All of a sudden, the kid's body turned cold, and the kid's eyes flashed with a trace of coldness. "My…. mom?"
