28 Rival in Love

"Ugh..." Yuan Ge sighs, puts away his phone, looks back at Amélie and shrugs helplessly.

Amélie tries to keep her composure. She manages to put on a smile, but she involuntarily presses her hand to her stomach - she has just overheard a little bit of Yuan Ge's conversation with his parents and suddenly feels a pain in her stomach. Artefact or not, it is so insensitive for a mother to let her son take home an old coffin of unknown origin! What a horrible family habit! If one has to get along with such a mother-in-law in the future…

"Yuan Ge, are you sure this coffin has never had a corpse in it? I've heard that when a drowning ghost is looking for a host, it doesn't disappear until it has killed the person who did it …"

Amélie's apprehensive persuasion, as always, falls on deaf ears - and being an atheist, Yuan Ge, as always, responds in the same way, "You Cantonese are too superstitious; there are no ghosts in this world."

When Du Jinghai finishes tying up all loose ends of the day, he is overjoyed to see Amélie back on set. "Amy, how did the sponsorship deal go this afternoon? Would you like to go to dinner together?" After glancing at Yuan Ge, he hastily added, "All three of us?"

Yuan Ge looks at Du Jinghai and clearly understands what he really meant. How could he not understand! He smiles and points at the coffin and says, "You guys go ahead, I have to get rid of this thing first, otherwise Liu Sang will nag us again tomorrow."

Amélie is being pulled away by Du Jinghai, but still looks back at Yuan Ge with a concerned look on her face. She has been trying to find an excuse to go to Yuan Ge's house, but how could she go if he takes something like this back to his house!

"It's good to have a bit of reverence for mystical cultures, I don't think there's anything wrong with your Cantonese superstition. My home town is quite superstitious too, my parents adamantly forbid us to talk about anything to do with death …"

Du Jinghai's voice was low when he spoke to Amélie, but Yuan Ge still heard it all. However, he doesn't have the slightest intention of reproaching him. After all, Jinghai's pursuit of Amélie is the worst kept secret at Dragon Dreams. Perhaps the reason he was willing to join the DDP in the first place was the fact that Amélie was on board. Among the four founders, Amélie is the only female, and she is so beautiful and outstanding in every way that if Fat Chow wasn't married, he would have joined in the mad pursuit of her as well. But he, on the contrary …

Thinking about this, Yuan Ge could not help but feel a bit at loss. He has been pursuing an artistic dream all his life, but for what? What is his goal? Art, that is his ideal in life, and he has never wavered in the slightest. But beyond that, does everything else really not matter? The faint scent of Amélie's perfume still lingers in air. This woman, willing to put aside all her pride for him, willing to be a submissive woman for him, could he really be so heartless and willingly give her up to Du Jinghai?

He stayed in a daze for a while, but Yuan Ge is not good at sorting out his personal feelings, so he avoids it by escaping into work as usual.

The immediate work before him is to deal with the coffin.

Yuan Ge has carefully weighed the difference in his parents' battle power in his mind, and considering the dire consequences if he abandons his mother's "precious artefact" and her doubled battle power after finding out his abandonment, he finally picks up the phone and reluctantly calls a courier company. After all, he rarely goes back to his house in the Western Hills these days, and his parents aren't likely to return any time soon, so it wouldn't make much difference to put one more strange object there, would it?

Soon, a few courier boys have arrived at the Rong Mansion, all looking grimly at the heavy coffin, and one of them is saying, "Sir, you should call a funeral home to deliver this, not us!"

"It's just a prop!" Yuan Ge waves his director's ID, "Not the real thing! Please deliver it to 18 Moonlight Valley, Western Hills."

"Who signs for it and do we need a key?"

"No, the door has a smart lock. Call me when you get there and I'll open the door for you remotely."
