(1) Last of the Vast

( POV Stoick the Vast )

Valka had just gone into labour when this raid began. The sun had just began to set when the horn was blown, I wanted nothing more than to sit by Valka's side as my child was born, but I'm a chief I couldn't hide away I had a duty to my people. So I left my wife on the birthing bed with Gothi beside her, grabbed my hammer and shield then left. It wasn't a normal raid there was a Nightfury flying arou-

*CRASH*

I watched in horror as a Stormcutter crashed through the roof of my home and after roaring it let out a tornado of bright yellow flames. My wife. My baby. I roared in anger and both men and dragon backed of in fear. With a swing of my hammer I crushed the head of a nadder before stomping away, feeling the crunch of a terrible terrors spine as it died underfoot.

I charged up the hill as both dragons and Vikings died around me, but I couldn't bring myself to care as I watched flames engulf my home. I heard the dragon cries of pain and anger the closer I came to my house and if I was in a better stare of mind I might have wondered what could have caused the beast so much pain, but I was not in a sane mind.

I kicked in the door not caring as the flames licked my body and singed my beard. I was high on bloodlust and the only thought in my mind was the death of this dragon, until I heard the cry of a child, my child. I wavered from my mission of blood and instead ran to where the cries came from. The house collapsed around me as I came to were my wife would have been in labour.

The slammed open under my immense strength and when I entered the room I saw my wife standing holding a bundle in her arms. She looked sickly pale and I would have worried if I had time to process it, but I did not as the dragon roared yet again and released another torrent of fire.

I panicked but was able to grab Valka in my giant arms before running out the building but I didn't make it far before a part of the collapsing roof fell on me. Valka tumbled from my arms as I became trapped under the burning wooden beam.

"Run!" I shouted at her, and reluctantly she did.

*ROAR*

I turned to the sound, still stuck under the burning beam, my vision partially obscured by the smoke that was gradually filling the house but I could still see the dragon clearly, and I could see my son facing it.

He stood like a fully grown Viking, he showed no fear as he stared down the dragon, easily three times his size, with only a broken end of a spear and a large hunting knife. My vision slowly blurred as I went to Valhalla and the last thing I saw was the Stormcutter leaping towards Hadrian, his mouth open ready to bite....before my eyes shut never to open.

If I fought the Valkyries off for just a few moments longer I would have witnessed my son of only nine winters plunge the shattered end of his mothers spear deep into the dragons chest, piercing its monstrous heart, and I may have seen him drag himself out of the burning house with a fang in his shoulder and his left arm burned.

But I saw none of that as the Valkyries carried me to the golden halls, where I would drink mead from curved horns and tell tales of battle while I wait for my son to join me in the shield hall. And together we shall fight the final battle of the world side by side, and it is by his side that I will face Ragnarok with a smile on my face.

{ Authors Notes }

So that was a short chap because I want to see how you all like it first.

Yes Stoick is dead and Valka is alive.

Yes a 9 year old killing a dragon is unrealistic but so are dragons.
