6 Chapter 6: Is Ji Younai A Human Or A Ghost?

Even though the mercenary did not reveal the name of the mastermind behind the plan to kill him, Gong Siyu had already guessed most of it in his mind.

Who else would want him dead every single day except that woman and her son? 

The Gong Family was wealthy and he had long ago gotten used to those scheming tricks and mind games that often happened at home. He was truly capable, simply because he had survived until now. 

After hearing the words "Ji Younai", Bai Feiran frowned before ordering the servants to clean up the scene expressionlessly. The corpses were removed, and he sat in the back seat of the black Maybach Zeppelin.

After a stretch of silence, he took out a stack of documents. 

He looked at Gong Siyu solemnly. 

The document contained the investigation results. 

However, he did not hand it over to Gong Siyu. Instead, he gave him a copy of the Beijing Daily News newspaper, published almost a month ago. 

"I want the information, not newspapers," Gong Siyu commented, eyes showing his annoyance.

"Mr. Gong, I think you'd better look at the headlines on the newspapers before deciding if you want the information." 

After glancing at Bai Feiran in confusion, Gong Siyu silently grabbed the newspaper. 

He immediately saw the eye-catching headline.

"Another Instance of Paranormal Activity In The Western Suburb Funeral Parlor, Female Corpse Went Missing, Surveillance Cameras Show Bizarre Resurrection of Female Corpse Which Then Left Embalming Room Alone."

Shock flashed in his narrow eyes, processing what he read. 

Bai Feiran immediately handed a transparent plastic bag that contained a piece of white cloth and a name tag in the pocket to Gong Siyu.

His subordinates had found the name tag when they were cleaning up the scene in the forest on the night of the assassination attempt. 

The white cloth was a shroud, specially used by the Western Suburb Funeral Parlor. 

"Mr. Gong, you'd better look at the name on the tag. The tag is specifically meant for marking corpses." 

There was some complexity and darkness in Gong Siyu's eyes after he read the words on the name tag. 

[Name]: Ji Younai

[Serial Number]: Embalming Room No. 3, 09 

[Cause of death]: Slit wrist, excessive blood loss.

[Note]: Corpse unclaimed.

Ji Younai's face, which was unusually fair, like porcelain, appeared in his mind. 

He slowly began to recall the entire encounter with Ji Younai that night. Indeed, everything seemed bizarre and suspicious. 

An ordinary person would definitely have been frightened and horrified to discover that the person who had saved him in the wilderness during the middle of the night was a corpse that had escaped from a funeral parlor. 

However, Gong Siyu did not react that way. 

Instead, he remained terrifyingly calm, even as his thoughts were unprecedentedly complicated and somber. 

There was an inexplicable discomfort in his chest.

She was scared soulless that night. However, if she had truly escaped from the funeral parlor, that would mean that she had gone back to the place that caused her great fear in order to get a signal to call for help, all in an attempt to rescue him 

At that moment, she was all by herself. 

'How helpless and flustered must she have felt? What do I do?'

Gong Siyu, who had discovered the "truth", was even more eager to see Ji Younai. 

For the sake of Gong Siyu's safety, Bai Feiran broke the silence and gave him a reminder. 

"Mr. Gong, this matter is very strange. In order to avoid getting embroiled with supernatural things, I think we'd better..." (stay further away from Ji Younai.)

Before he could even complete his sentence, Gong Siyu interrupted him with some harsh words! 

"Bai Feiran, since when do you have the right to tell me what I should do?" 

Gong Siyu's tone was gloomy. He fiddled with the mutton fat jade on his index finger with some darkness in his eyes.

"And who are you calling a supernatural thing?" 

"..."

For the first time in his life, Bai Feiran heard Gong Siyu speak up for a woman whom he did not know or was related to. 

In the past, Gong Siyu would definitely not have behaved like this! He wouldn't even speak up for Ms. Wen. 

"Old Wang, were you the one who sent Ji Younai away before?" 

Having thought of something, Gong Siyu glared at the middle-aged man in the driver's seat. 

"Yes, Young Master." 

"Tell me where you sent her that day and what she did." 

Old Wang answered truthfully, but Gong Siyu sensed a strange expression on Old Wang's face, hinting at some scruples. 

"That lady first asked me to send her to the Civic Hospital, claiming that she wanted to pick up her parents. However, I did not see her parents. I only saw a hearse, which she asked me to follow to the cremation center in the north of the city. When the sky was almost dark, I saw her walk out with two urns in her arms. She bought a lot of offerings for the dead, which she placed in the trunk of the car. She then asked me to send her to Jade Wave Manor. When we arrived at the destination, she thanked me and told me to leave." 

'Pick up her parents from the hospital? Cremation center? Ashes?' 

Gong Siyu frowned. He remembered Ji Younai mentioning earlier that her parents had passed away. 

Bai Feiran was holding a document in his hands, seemingly trying to hide it from Gong Siyu, but Gong Siyu snatched it away from him and began reading. 

It contained the investigation results of Ji Younai's profile and her death certificate. 

There was plenty of content, but since it was rather dim in the car, Gong Siyu could not see it clearly. 

"Bai Feiran, have you found out where she is now?" Gong Siyu asked while reading the document carefully, having switched on all the decorative lights in the Maybach.

Bai Feiran wanted to speak but stopped himself from doing so. He looked as if he was at a loss for words. 

"Speak!"

"Beijing Ninth Asylum." 

Gong Siyu suddenly looked up. He thought that he had heard incorrectly. 

"Ms. Ji was sent to the Ninth Asylum a month ago by her aunt. She's being held there for psychiatric treatment."

Beijing Ninth Asylum was a prestigious mental hospital known for treating mental abnormalities.

"Why?" 

Gong Siyu dared not believe what he had heard. Why had a normal person like her get sent to an asylum? 

Bai Feiran recalled something and added, "It seems that she scattered her parents' ashes in her aunt's home and burned some wreaths and paper effigies at their doorstep. She even threatened to make them all die horrible deaths. She was taken away by public security officers for disrupting peace within the community. Her aunt then asked for a psychiatric assessment to be performed on her. After that, she was sent to the asylum."

"So outrageous!" Gong Siyu exclaimed, anger appearing in his eyes.

Bai Feiran nodded, "It is indeed outrageous. After all, those were her parents' ashes." 

"I meant her aunt!" 

Gong Siyu threw the pieces of paper he had in front of Bai Feiran and told him to take a look at it for himself. 

Bai Feiran looked down and was shocked to see the words on the paper. It was clearly stated that Ji Younai's parents had both died in a tragic car accident, and her father's biological sister had embezzled all of her family's property. She refused to hold funerals for Ji Younai's parents, leaving Ji Younai's corpse, as well as that of her parents', in the funeral parlor."

"Postpone everything on my agenda for tomorrow," Gong Siyu ordered Bai Feiran.

"Mr. Gong, what would you like to do?" 

"Get her out of the asylum. It's a horrible place." 

Bai Feiran understood Gong Siyu's intentions, knowing that he wanted to rescue Ji Younai. 

'But...he can just arrange for someone to do it. Must he go personally?'

Her father, Ji Bai, was a professor at the Institute of Computer Science Studies of the Chinese University of Science and Technology.

Her mother, Wen Ya, was a professor in the Department of Literature at Beihua University. 

They were involved in a major car accident on February 25, 2017 and were pronounced dead on the spot. 

That same day, Ji Younai slit her wrist in a dilapidated inn in a demolition zone located in the western part of the city. According to her death certificate, she had died due to excessive blood loss, which resulted in organ failure.
