Post Scarcity
The year is 2250. Under the watchful eye of MAXBOT, an artificial superintelligence dedicated to maximizing happiness, humanity lives in a post-scarcity world—a world without want, without war, without any actual need to labour.
But there's a catch: based on its understanding of human psychology, humanity's artificial overlord decided that humans must be forced to study, labour, and compete—even if it no longer has any real value—if they were to be truly happy. Thus was developed the work chair, which allows people to earn tokens with which to buy from the now unlimited supply of things by enduring unpleasant scenarios in virtual reality. Day in and day out, people have been grinding simulated points to purchase living necessities.
Enter 22-year-old Jack Peshman, transported from the year 2020, the age of the cryptocurrency boom and of the rise of non-fungible tokens. He has a knack for turning abstract tokens into a profit. And he has a plan to disrupt the AI-ruled order forever.
And if profit is no longer meaningful in this world, he will find a way to make it meaningful.
