9 The Flood

Marinette's POV

I watched sadly while Chat Noir ran. I bit my lip. Tears were gathering in my eyes, and all my confidence disappeared.

Chat Noir didn't love me.

He never did.

He only loved Ladybug.

Not me.

I was just Marinette Dupain Cheng. The baker's daughter.

I broke down.

I tried to stifle my sobs in an attempt to hide it, but I was overcome by the wave of my emotions that broke me down completely.

My tears poured down, spilling down my face, I looked towards the window where Chat Noir escaped, and I sobbed into my chest unceasingly, my hands clutching my t-shirt

Tikki floated over me, "Marinette, I'm so sorry."

Her hand patted my back lightly, slightly soothing me as the tears stopped for a while.

Tikki seemed confused as to how to comfort me, and instead chose to insult Chat Noir.

"Chat Noir is a fool if he doesn't love you for who you are and can't accept you as a soulmate." She muttered.

I looked at her, my eyes glassy and surrounded by red.

Tikki looked at me, "Marinette, maybe you should just go to bed, it's already quite late, you wouldn't want to be late for school, right?"

I snapped out of my daze.

"Oh, yeah. Goodnight Tikki." I barely whispered, my voice hoarse from crying.

I climbed up the ladder and made it up on my bed, once I touched the bed, I collapsed.

"Marinette, wake up, you wouldn't want to be late for school."

Tikki gently nudged my shoulder.

I woke up, my eyes still puffy and red from the crying.

I didn't bother to put on makeup, I just changed into what I wore for school every day and just rushed to school.

Alya, Nino and Adrien was already waiting, and as soon as Alya saw my face, her expression darkened.

"Girl, what happened? Who did this to you?" She asked.

"Was it Chloe? If it was, I'M GOING TO RIP HER LIMBS TO SHREDS." She bellowed.

"No, no Alya, it wasn't Chloe. It was my, " I whispered so Nino and Adrien couldn't hear, "My soulmate."

"I don't wanna talk about it Alya." I said, my eyes looking at her, begging her not to say anything about it, as the boys were behind us, and I rather them not get involved.

She wrapped her hand around my shoulder and sighed, "Okay, but if you need me to beat this guy up for you, the offer still stands."

I actually smiled.

"Thanks Alya, you're the best." I replied gratefully.

I looked behind me, Nino and Adrien were talking about some new video game that had just been released, and didn't seem to notice our previous conversation.

Alya interrupted them.

"Boys, class is about to start soon, come on, let's go." She said, quite sassily.

Adrien chuckled.

Nino answered, "Yes, maam."
