1 Chapter 1

I ran through a dark forest. Behind me, a beast howled. I ran

faster, slapping away tree branches and jumping over roots. I ran and ran, but the beast got ever closer. 'You can't escape me Lilun.' It's voice was cold and dark, but it sounded feminine. I tried to speak, but no words left my mouth. The beast laughed, I tried to scream, but nothing came out. I ran faster, the world around me began to blur. I stopped paying attention to my surroundings resulting in me tripping over a surfaced root. I tried to whimper as I crawled, unable to stand.

'Look at me Lilun' I took my head and tried to whimper again. 'Look at me!' the beast demanded. I turned my head slowly and saw the beast looming above me, this time my scream made a sound.

I bolted up in my bed, a scream stuck in my throat. Cold sweat dripped down my face, my hair and clothes stuck to my body. "Why? Why do I keep having the same dream?" Tears fell from my eyes, but I quickly whipped them away. "I won't start crying." I took several deep breaths before looking at my clock. It was currently six in the morning on a Monday. I groaned and pulled my covers off and got out of bed. I stumbled to the bathroom and flicked the switch on. I was a mess. My eyes where red and puffy from crying and my hair was tangled and resembled a rats nest. Not to mention my pajamas where sticking to me, rather uncomfortably. I stripped my clothes off and got into the shower. I hummed a tune as I waited for the water to warm up before stepping under the stream. A sigh of content escaped my lips as I showed in the warm water. When I was done I dried my hair off before wrapping a towel around my body. I made my way back to my room, refreshed and clean. I turned on my bedroom light, dropped the towel on my bed, and started deciding on my clothes for the day. I went with black, baggy, cargo jeans, and a white off-the-shoulder top with an abstract blue heart on the left rib. Happy with my decision I pulled all my clothes on, along with white no show socks, and left the room. I went back to the bathroom and brushed my hair and teeth before placing my hair in the same style I always wore it in. I smiled at myself in the mirror, but the smile quickly fell. With a sigh I left the room, shutting the light off. I quietly walked down stairs and into the kitchen. I turned the personal TV on as I rummaged in the fridge for breakfast.

"Breaking news, we have just received notice of yet another murder. This time two fire mages where killed, both where male and where approximately fifteen years of age. Their friend, a water mage named Fantisa, was taken, she is sixteen. If anyone knows who did this call the number at the bottom of your screen." I shut the TV off, my hands where shaking. I was tempted to throw the remote at the TV, but thought better of it. I instead grabbed the milk from the fridge and some Magic Os from the pantry. I sat down at the table with my bowl of cereal, in silence. As I ate all I could think about was why didn't anyone do anything about the killings? Everyone knew who did it, so why didn't they stop it. But I already knew the answer. People where to afraid to fight against Lucifer, to afraid to save someone. My stomach lurched violently, threatening to get rid of the food I had just eaten. I got up from the table and hurriedly dumped my half eaten cereal down the sink. My hands gripped the edge of the sink as I panted,

practically gagging. It took several minutes, and lots of water, before I finally calmed down. I looked at the stove-clock. "Time to go." I mumbled. I put my blue paint splattered high-tops on, grabbed my bag, and left. A few magic powered cars drove past me by as I made my way to Elyk's house to pick him up an hour before school started. You see, Elyk has the habit of sleeping in no matter the day. So it took some years until I finally figured out that if you wake Elyk up and hour before he has to go anywhere you're more likely to get to that place on time. I didn't even knock on the front door, I just walked right into his house. Since I've been going to his house since we became friends I earned the privilege of just walking right on in. I quickly and quietly made my way to Elyk's room. 'Please let him be dressed. PLEASE let him be dressed.' Elyk has a tendency to sleep naked, and he is white as hell. I stepped over the sleeping Kairu on the floor and yanked the covers off Elyk's body. I quickly turned away, dropped the blanket, and turned the light on. Kairu jumped up as soon as the light turned on, and he started barking. Since he was the size of a regular dog his bark was loud and annoying. I quickly cast a silencing charm, this simple spell made sure that no one outside could hear Kairu.

"Ahhh!! Wait what?" Elyk gasped as he bolted up in his bed. He was thankfully clothed, and looking around like and idiot. I groaned and rubbed my temples. "Get ready for school ya goofball."

"You're a goofball." Elyk yawned as he laid back down, hugging his

pillow.

"Oh no you don't." I started jumping up and down on Elyk's bed until he said he would get ready for school. "Good." I then left his room, Kairu trotting after me. As soon as I made it to the kitchen, I started shaking madly, causing Kairu to whimper. "I'm okay." I gasped, grasping the counter to steady myself. "I'm okay." Kairu whimpered loudly. I gave him a shaky smile and offered my hand which he proceeded to lick. I had calmed down I took my hand off the counter. "See Kairu, I'm okay." Kairu barked sadly, not believing me. Hell, I didn't believe myself. Elyk then entered the kitchen, dressed in baggy denim jeans and his favorite fur rimmed jacket, he also had on his worn black high-tops. I gave him a gentle smile. "You should eat something."

Elyk cocked his head at me. "Are you okay?"

I nodded my head, shoving my hands into my pockets. "Fine, I'm just fine." Elyk hugged me tightly. I looked at the ground as I hugged him back. He knew I wasn't okay, but he wouldn't say anything about it.

"We should go." I mumbled. I grabbed a doughnut for Elyk and walked to the door. Elyk let out a sigh as he gave half the doughnut to Kairu. "Something's wrong with her buddy. I wonder what it is?" Kairu barked sadly before jumping onto Elyk's shoulder.

Elyk and I walked to school in silence.

"So Lilun..."

"Elyk don't." I cut him off as I wrapped my arms around myself as if I was cold. "Please, not right now." Elyk looked at me, sadness in his eyes. He could sense the crushing sadness that resided within me, as could Kairu. I could tell Elyk wanted to talk to me but I didn't want to talk back, and he knew that. Elyk placed his hand gently on my shoulder and left it there for the rest of the walk.

**First Class English. Time 8 a.m.

I sat quietly at my desk, my foot gently tapping. I wasn't even paying attention to the teacher, I could care less about our ancestor's literature. I was aware that Blaise was watching me, but I ignored her. I switched from tapping my foot to tapping my fingers quietly on the desk. A note landed on my desk, it was from Blaise. I stared at it blankly before opening it. Inside was written R u ok?

I picked up my pencil and wrote back.

Ya, im ok.

I folded the note up and tossed it back without the teacher noticing. I went back to drumming my fingers, but I wasn't able to drum long because Blaise sent the note back.

R u sure? U don't look ok.

I know, but im fine. Just peachy.

I know ur lyin.

I sighed.

So 2days just not mi day

Whats really buggin you?

Well I had the same dream last night, and something else, but I'm not sure if it's real or not.

OMGs!! Whats the somethin else?

I squirmed in my seat as I tried to think of the best way to phrase

the something else. I decided to be point-blank.

Im in luv wit Elyk.

Blaise quiet literally jumped out of her seat when she read the note. This got the attention of the teacher. "Do you have something you would like to tell the class Ms. Nidant?" The class started giggling as Mrs. Morgan placed her hands on her meaty hips. A blush rose on Blaise's face as she mumbled a no and sat back down. I stifled a laugh with my hand. When Mrs. Morgan turned back to the board to continue the lesson Blaise tossed the note back.

Ok tat was dumb. Anyway, r u sure u luv Elyk?

Ya. Like 2day he hugged me and touched my shoulder an this spark flew through my body.

OMGs! Do u think he luvs u?

No, I think he luvs u.

What makes u think tat?

The way he looks at u an junk.

Ur horrible at reading people. Elyk doesn't luv me, he knows tat I luv Damien.

This time I jumped out of my seat.

"Okay, the next person to jump from their seat gets sent to the headmaster's office!" Mrs. Morgan snapped. I grumbled a sorry and sat back down. The class was giggling. Mrs. Morgan hmphed before continuing the lesson.

U nevr told me u luved Damien!!

I guess I 4got. Well now u know.

So, do ya think I have a chance wit Elyk?

Oh ya! Just wait 4 a while, so tat way u can make sure tat he feels da same.

K.

I sighed before paying attention. The crappy mood I was in was slowly disappearing and a gentle smile played on my lips.

**Last class Magic Defense, 2nd rank.

I was positively bouncing. Not only was it the last class of the day, but I had it with Elyk. Ever since I admitted that I had feelings for Elyk I started getting butterflies in my stomach every time I saw him or thought of him.

"Okay class, today we will be perfecting your energy attacks. Remember, these attacks are very important for getting out of a bad situation. Get with a partner and begin."

I walked over to Elyk to ask him to be my partner, but he was taken by the school slut Senna. Elyk mouthed an I'm sorry as Senna dragged him away, giggling. Blaise walked over to me, arms crossed over her chest. "Gods she is disgusting." Blaise shook her head and made a barfing sound. "Geez, Elyk is too nice some times. Come on Lilun let's practice."

"Yeah." I really didn't want to practice, I wanted Elyk. I didn't want to shot blue energy beams at Blaise. I wanted to destroy Senna and send her into the deepest pits of Hell. I quickly blacked out after my last thought. My body became ice cold. My mind became blank but my body moved.. I had no idea what I was doing until the high pitched scream of Senna snapped me out of myself. I was no longer with Blaise in the corner of the room. I was in the center of the room and Senna was at my feet, blood streaming from her broken nose.

"You bitch! You fucking broke my nose! My perfect nose!" Senna screamed. Her voice was nasally.

"I didn't... I couldn't have..." I stuttered. I looked at her hands, they had Senna's blood on them, then I looked around the room at the scared faces, before my eyes rested on the shocked face of Elyk and Blaise.

"Did you see that?"

"Black magic..."

"A black mage?"

The voices of the class buzzed around me. I took a shaky breath before bolting from the classroom.

I ran and ran until I couldn't run anymore. I collapsed on the ground behind an abandoned building before I cried. The sound of footsteps made me raise my head.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" I yelled. A pale shield appeared around me.

"Talk to me Lilun. What's wrong?"

"What's wrong? WHAT'S WRONG!" I stood up. "I'm a freak! You saw what I did in class! I used black magic! I can use both black and white magic! That shouldn't even be fucking possible!" Tears started streaming down my face once again. "I'm a freak."

Elyk walked closer. "You're not a freak. Mr. Drago even said that it wasn't odd for someone to have the magic of the Angels and the Demons."

"But it hasn't happened since the Dawn of Life!"

"But it doesn't mean you're a freak."

"I could have killed Senna! So if I'm not a freak I'm a psycho path!"

Elyk touched the shield, causing it to shatter. Elyk quickly pulled me into a hug.

"Why? Why did you attack her?"

"Because I..." I gripped Elyk's jacket, chocking on the words. "I..."

Unable to say I love you I pushed Elyk off and ran away from him.

"Lilun! Wait!" Elyk yelled after me, but he knew that I wasn't coming

back. He had sensed it, the words I couldn't speak. "I love you too."

He mumbled, tears falling from his eyes. "More than you know."
