Chapter 4

Daniel, who had been lost in his thoughts about the recent changes in the hospital, blinked and followed Helen's gaze towards the window. His brow furrowed as he tried to discern the distant object she was pointing at. At first, it was merely a speck on the horizon, barely visible against the vast sky.

As the seconds ticked by and the object drew closer, its form became clearer. It was an airplane, but something was terribly amiss. The aircraft seemed to be descending at an alarming angle, far steeper than any regular descent pattern.

In a heartbeat, Daniel's instinct for self-preservation kicked in. He reached out and grabbed Helen's hand with a sudden urgency that startled her. "We need to leave the hospital immediately," he declared, his voice trembling with a mix of fear and determination.

Helen's eyes widened with surprise and concern. She hadn't expected such a drastic response. "What's wrong, Daniel? Why the rush?" she questioned, her voice reflecting the whirlwind of emotions coursing through her.

With a sense of urgency, Daniel replied, "I don't have time to explain, but there's an incoming plane that's about to crash into the hospital any minute now. We must go."

Helen's heart raced as she absorbed this shocking revelation. The gravity of the situation began to sink in, and she realized that swift action was necessary. However, her compassionate nature wrestled with the urgency of her colleague's plea.

"What about the others?" she inquired, her voice quivering with empathy.

Daniel, his eyes fixed on the window where the ill-fated plane drew nearer, spoke with a determined tone, "We can't worry about the others right now. Our first priority is to ensure our own safety."

Torn between her sense of responsibility towards the hospital's staff and patients and the pressing need to escape the impending danger, Helen hesitated for a moment. She released the grip Daniel had on her hand and, with unwavering resolve, declared, "I can't live with myself if I just abandon them. I'm going to the emergency room to help."

Witnessing Helen's unwavering determination, Daniel let out a resigned sigh. He knew that he couldn't allow her to face the potential catastrophe alone. In a low, contemplative tone, he muttered, "I can't let her go alone."

With resolve, he followed Helen as she dashed towards the hospital's emergency room, the two of them united by a shared purpose to assist their colleagues and patients in the face of an imminent disaster.

As they reached the emergency room, chaos and confusion reigned. Hospital staff and patients were beginning to realize the impending danger, and panic was setting in. Helen, driven by her compassionate nature and medical training, immediately sprang into action. She began organizing the evacuation, directing patients and staff towards the safest areas of the hospital.

"Helen, we don't have time for this; we should be trying our best to leave the hospital right now," said Daniel, but this time the expression on his face showed a fear of death.

Seeing the fear on Daniel's face saddened Helen, but she couldn't run away, leaving everyone in the hospital alone. She looked at Daniel with a sad expression and said, "I'm sorry, Daniel," as she continued directing others to safety.

"Fine, I'll leave you here alone. I tried my best to save you," said Daniel as he turned his back towards the opposite side of Helen, getting ready to run away. But he decided to look at the window for a minute to see how close the plane was. He gazed out and realized they didn't have time anymore; the plane was dangerously close to the hospital and could crash any second.

Daniel quickly turned towards Helen and shouted, "Get down, Helen!"

Helen, upon hearing Daniel's urgent shout, immediately reflexively bent down and instinctively covered her head with both hands.

With a deafening crash, the plane struck the hospital, resulting in a catastrophic explosion that sent shockwaves throughout the vicinity.

The impact of the collision reverberated throughout the hospital, shattering windows and causing debris to rain down on the panicked staff and patients in the emergency room.

The shockwave from the explosion also propelled Daniel, knocking him unconscious as he struck his head against one of the hospital room walls.

Daniel's last words were "Helen" before he finally lost consciousness. The exhaustion and pain had taken a toll on him, causing him to collapse.
