Chapter 17- Some Investigations

First, Gojo did some digging into the town's gossip to get a basic idea of how the town was like. It wasn't particularly difficult with his charm, all he had to do was ask around a little bit and the nice ladies from the town were more than happy to share what they knew.

First of all, he learnt that the town had pretty low crime rates over the last few years.

Second, he learnt that the woman he was talking to had a teenager nephew, not that it was related but the woman shared the gossip of how her nephew was a genius yet defeated by a girl who didn't even go to school properly.

"What do you mean she doesn't go to school properly?" He asked, as if he was too in the mood for gossip as well.

"Well, she was homeschooled..even though her mother barely finished high school. I don't even know how she even qualifies in the first place.." The woman complained. "But anyway, everyone in town was so obssessed with the idea of her being a genius. Sure, she has decent scores but it doesn't matter if she just skip school and play games all the time.!"

The more Gojo listened to the woman, the more he thought that there was too much of jealousy and other negative emotions going on with that woman.

He tried to get more information about that girl not only from the woman but also from other locals, and soon learnt that the girl really was famous in the town for getting perfect scores everytime she showed up for exam. But she barely showed up to school and she was homeschooled until high school.

There were also some rumors about how she moved to a bigger city and how she looked down on normal people, etc. Some people even went ahead and claimed that she was an arrogant one who used her "good" scores to break the rules all the time and beat up other kids.

Gojo Satoru definitely didn't think all of these was true because he could clearly sense clear jealousy and malice behind those gossips.

'But all those negative emotions should've been giving birth to more curses. So it explains why the curses here were more higher grade than the normal small towns.' He thought, 'But the question is who is the one dealing with those curses?'

As far as he could guess, the one who had been dealing with the curses was definitely as strong as a Grade 1 sorcerer, if not stronger and they could have a powerful cursed technique that could be used for prevention of curse related incidents or they could be really intelligent and see several steps ahead along with the clever use of Jujutsu.

Either way, he knew that person should be in the world he was trying to create.

He decided to look more into the supposed "genius" of the town and he was almost convinced that she was likely the one who was exorcizing curses when he visited the places where she was supposed to frequent. But then, he learnt about another fact.

The girl was supposed to be around fifteen - sixteen so what were the chances of a baby exorcizing curses?

Cursed techniques manifest a few years after birth and it takes time to properly manage a cursed technique let alone use it to exorcize curses.

So, her possibly being the one he was looking for was a bit bizarre.

He didn't dismiss the whole thing but he would try to see if there were anything else he could find in this town.

He eventually found that there was another girl who was around three years older than the genius girl and that they used to hang out all the time. There were also some rumors about how the other girl had always been regarded as a weirdo even though no one really treated her as such anymore.

After asking around a bit more, he also learnt that the older girl moved to Kyoto for university while no one really knew where the other girl went.

And since both girls moved recently, it was a little hard to point out who had been the one exorcizing curses.

'At least one is in Kyoto. Maybe the Kyoto school can find her if she ends up being the one exorcizing curses.' He thought.

Sachiko had been adjusting to her new life in Sendai while training her cursed techniques and trying to understand more in depth about them. She had yet to make any major breakthrough but she was having fun everyday.

Strangely enough, she had yet to encounter the curse responsible for the bad reputation of her current neighborhood and she was starting to wonder if the curse was bidding its time.

But, on a fateful day after a year had passed by, it happened.

Sachiko walked back to her home at around 9 pm and as she walked through the corridors of the apartment building, she felt like something was watching her every step and she could see the dense cursed energy gathering around the whole building.

Sachiko knew it was finally time to face the curse that had been plaguing the neighborhood. She continued walking as if nothing was wrong while activating her cursed techniques to prevent any ambush.

But Sachiko didn't enter her room, instead, she continued walking around the corridors as she checked the possible locations of the curse at the same time.

Before she could pinpoint one location, one giant curse broke through the ceiling and stood in front of her.

Seeing the curse right in front of her, Sachiko had to react quickly and enhance her body with cursed energy. The curse attacked her with an impressive amount of raw cursed energy and it would've injured her badly if she didn't manage to react in time.

After dodging one could have been a serious injury, Sachiko got a little excited.

"So you're a strong curse! I've been wanting to test out how strong I've become so let's do thiss!!"

She said before using her cursed techniques to the maximum degree she could use. With Possibility, she could see how the curse was most likely to attack and minimize the risk of getting injured. Then, with Cursed Energy Control, she could effectively control her cursed energy finely to attack the curse and by combining it with Possibility, she could ensure that the success rate of her attacks were around 80%.

Sachiko gained the upperhand as she dodged the attacks from the curse and then attack it with her own cursed energy shaped into multiple blades. It was a trick she learnt in this few months while she worked on to understand her cursed techniques more and although it required a lot of concentration and fine control of cursed energy, Sachiko could manage it pretty well.

She thought everything was under her control until the curse let out the most sinister grin she had ever seen in her life.

Then, everything exploded.
