8 Chapter 8

"Maybe? Maybe not? Who knows." He shook his head, "Suzune~ here likes to joke a lot."

"I said stop calling me by my first name, you detestable moron."

"Moron? Wrong choice of words." He raised his chin slightly, "I'm smarter than you."

Horikita scoffed, "Act all you want, but you'd be in for a rude awakening." She shook her head with a pitiful look, "Poor Hasabe, doesn't even know what kind of guy she's getting involved with."

"Hah? If it's anyone pitiful, it's you. If it weren't for Ayanokouji-kun, nobody would even talk to your pathetic self. You're in Class D just like the rest of us. You're a defect just like the rest of us."

Horikita didn't want to continue talking to him, she got up and left after leaving behind a few words.

"I may not know why I've been put into this class, but I know very well why you're here." Her voice was frosty.

"Haha, you might not know why you're here, but I do know why you're here. Matter of fact, what do you even know about me?" He seemed to be imitating someone, but Horikita didn't answer back and had already left.

Tatsuya turned to Ayanokouji, his personality shifting back into the gentle Tatsuya he was familiar with.

Which was the real one? Ayanokouji thought silently.

"Can you tell me what's going on?" He asked purely out of curiosity.

Tatsuya shook his head.

"She's just too arrogant for her own good."

"Then can you tell me why she's in Class D?" As if he hadn't expected that question, Tatsuya paused before parting his lips, "She's acts just as self-important as Koenji. She refuses to work with others, looking down on them as worthless. I think you understand what I mean."

Ayanokouji nodded expressionlessly, "Pardon me for asking again, but can you tell me why you're in Class D?"

Tatsuya turned silent and gazed at the protagonist, who saw everyone beside him as tools, with a deep gaze.

Ayanokouji didn't shy away from his gaze.

Suddenly, Tatsuya laughed, "Who knows?"

"Oh..."

Ayanokouji finally had a little understanding of the person in front of him.

...

Just like always, crowds gathered around Tatsuya and Hirata, ignoring Ayanokouji as if he didn't exist.

Ayanokouji got up from his seat and left.

Meanwhile, Hirata and Tatsuya worked together to calm the class.

"Don't worry, just like Sensei said, we can earn the points back," Hirata said, and some of the girls looked toward Tatsuya.

He smiled, "While it was a bit harsh, it's not something we can't deal with. We can convince most people to act properly now since they would get points as well. Plus, there should be some other way to earn points besides mid-terms, so let's keep our hopes up."

He spoke smoothly, and everyone felt comforted. Hirata looked at him deeply, 'As expected of him.'

Hirata always had an odd premonition regarding him, but since it was vague, he couldn't tell. But Tatsuya knew how to manage the class way too well.

Hasabe looked at him with stars in her eyes.

She had already been buttered up by him and was waiting for him to confess; her girlfriends had told her if she confessed first, her value would be lower, and he might not appreciate her.

In fact, Tatsuya didn't seem to talk to other girls with as much interest, much to their dismay.

Soon, everyone had left the class, and Tatsuya headed out as well. He was walking alone; he had already told Hasabe he was a bit busy and wouldn't be able to walk her to the dorm today.

He walked with a direction in mind, and soon he saw a girl walking alone toward the dorm rooms.

She had long pink hair tied into two ponytails that rested on her back, hiding her figure.

Tatsuya didn't know why she took this route so often, but he had monitored her behavior for quite a while.

She had begun taking those 'photos' for about ten days now.

He walked up to her and tapped her shoulder.

Airi was startled and turned around in shock. Seeing it was Tatsuya, her pupils dilated, "Uh, uhm-"

"What a coincidence. Airi-san, right?" Tatsuya asked with the same gentle smile he always had, and Airi felt her heartbeat increase.

Not out of fascination but fear.

She was socially anxious and awkward in holding conversations, but if there was something she was good at, it was reading people.

It could be considered a superpower of hers.

That's why she desperately avoided Kushida Kikiyo and rarely talked to her. But there was another person she desperately avoided, even more so than Kushida.

Tatsuya Yamamoto.

He was tall, considerably so, around the same height as Sudo.

But his face was sharp, and his hair hung loosely behind him, giving him a wild but elegant look, not to mention his physique hugged against his uniform, clearly telling her that he had a very well-developed body.

But that wasn't the reason he was so popular. If good looks and a muscular build were all it took, then Koenji wouldn't only be half as popular as him.

It was the gentle look in his eyes and his soft smile. It seemed very comforting, but Airi felt fortunate yet unfortunate to be able to tell the truth.

If all she felt from Kushida was malice, then the person in front of her was the personification of the devil itself.

The way he looked at people might be gentle, but she could tell.

He saw them all as nothing but dolls!

Tatsuya tilted his head at her, "Is something wrong?"

The route was unusually empty; sometimes there was a student or so, but at the moment, there was no one.

Airi felt a chill creep up her as she shook her head, "N-No."

"Oh!" Tatsuya nodded with a smile, though his expression turned curious, "But if there's nothing wrong..."

Airi looked up for the first time and saw his gaze. Her heart froze as she noticed Tatsuya was a mere inch away from her face.

The gentle look was gone, replaced by a frigid and cold look—

"Why do you avoid me?"
