1 Icarus

The legend of Icarus

An old tale, told to children at bedtime.

Story about a boy who wished to become a hero, comparable to the ancient hero's of Greece.

With the help of his father, he accomplished his goals so that. They both escaped from the tower in which they were imprisoned with wings made out of wax.

To on lookers young Icarus looked like a god among men flying above the clouds with each flap of his wings he let out a howl of pure excitement!, the higher he went the more free he felt, the closer he got, the more he thought he could touch the heavens and be welcomed among the ranks of the gods.

But like all heroes young Icarus grew too overconfident in his abilities given to him and in his arrogance he committed the grave sin of greed, in his haste he forgot of the warning that his father gave him "Remember Icarus the wings are made out of wax so do not get too close to the sun or else they will melt and....you will fall".

And as his father warned his wings melted and he came crashing back down to earth, the once proud smile he held turned to one of panic and fear.

He tried his hardest to regain control of his body and wings so he could survive, but it was far too late the damage had been done.

As his father had heard his sons plead for help he had tuned around to see what was wrong wishing this was just a prank played by the young boy, that he had heed his warning to not go to close to the son.

But to his fears he saw the sight of his only child plummeting to the raging oceans below, as on instinct Daedalus flew as fast as he could putting as much power behind his flaps to reach his son in time, but to his fears he didn't.

The young Icarus had already reached the water and as Daedalus descended to the water to hopefully carry his son back and bury him properly only to see feathers above the water surface signifying that was all that remains of the tragic hero.

And like that the once young Icarus crashed back down to earth into the raging seas below drowning because of his owned arrogance and pride a tragic hero indeed.
