Experiments and the boy from Zaraki

Since Toji had created the Mk. ∞, he had been using the time when Captain Unohana goes out to 'deal' with gangs to absorb the souls of the powerful when they die. It had given him a large amount of souls to work with.

He also travelled to the Human world to search for all the Fullbringers, take away their powers and feed them to the Hogyoku, as Fullbringers get their powers through small parts of the Soul King.

He used only powerful Shinigami as well as Hollows of the Vasto Lorde Level. He was lucky as Unohana didn't mind him doing this at all. She was not even slightly interested. The only thing he told her was that he would grow stronger with it and that seemed to do the trick.

Over the years though, Toji found out that the desire of Unohana seemed to be acknowledged by the Hogyoku. Unlike the original two Hogyoku from Aizen and Urahara, Toji had full control over his Hogyoku and would never allow anybody to get powers because he wished it to happen.

But he didn't mind with Unohana and it would seem that she craved for a successor to battle her and by whom she could die. How did he know that ... we will come to that later. It was something that happened decades after he had created the Hogyoku.

.

Thanks to the Quincy King and his army, the Hollows had been reduced to smaller numbers, but the population was rising again thankfully. This was important for Toji as he wanted to add some strong Vasto Lorde. He had gotten some already.

Toji held no mercy for Hollows. It was like Kenpachi said: Sanity? What would I do with something useless like that?

Toji captured some Hollows and kept them in a separate dimension he had created. He made it with the same principle as the Dangai.

So the time difference was about 2000:1 in there as well. And now what he did was to put a couple of Hollows inside and have them start hunting each other. Because he could literally imagine new Hollows appearing, this was a fast process.

Now why would he not just imagine a Vasto Lorde? Where was the fun in that? It was an experiment and he wanted to get strong Vasto Lorde that came to be by chance and survival. So he created new Hollows every day inside his pocked dimension and waited.

The time dilation was working in his favour as Hollows started to work fast. They consumed and killed each other. Toji had essentially recreated Hueco Mundo but in pocked size.

Toji made sure that the dimension was not connected to the other three worlds: Soul Society, Hueco Mundo and the Human world. So Ichibe and the rest of the Zero Division wouldn't notice anything.

.

As the years ticked by and life took its course in Soul Society, Toji continued his training and his experimentations. He was still the Lieutenant of the 11th Division while his two friends Shunsui Kyoraku and Jushiro Ukitake were Lieutenants of their respective squads as well.

Although it seemed like they would get to be Captains soon, Toji had no interest in becoming one. He did think about it and even asked Unohana what she thought ... a big mistake that was. She was in no way interested in letting him leave.

.

-Present Day-

"Are we done here Captain?", Toji asked her as he was finished feeding his Hogyoku Mk. ∞ a powerful Shinigami soul.

"I don't think I'm going to find someone strong here anymore.", Unohana answered him.

"Eh, I wouldn't count on it. Maybe tomor- ... oh would you look at that.", Toji said.

Unohana saw his surprised expression and looked where Toji was looking and saw a huge pile of bodies right next to them.

"That pile ... since when has it been here?"

"About 10 seconds, I reckon.", Toji said.

Then they saw at the top of the huge pile of corpses a small child looking at them below without blinking.

'Ah, would you look at that? The young Kenpachi Zaraki. And the famous scene is going to happen right before my eyes. I am very excited.'

Toji thought.

Then the child jumped and swung his sword at Unohana. She blocked, or at least she wanted to but it was no use, the young child managed to stab her thorax. Unohana had a very surprised expression on her face.

(Toji POV)

I saw her surprise and smiled. I think it is funny that she was caught so off guard like that.

When she fights against me, I always build up my strength and speed slowly so she doesn't realise that I have surpassed her and that she can enjoy herself while I push her to her limit.

But it seemed I was going about it all wrong. I should have seriously wounded her if I wanted to make her truly happy. I had never seen her so happy as she was right now.

Her bloodlust roared as she fought against the child. The child was happy as well. Both of their emotions were visible on their faces. But it seemed like the young Zaraki was still stronger than her and it would take the same ending as it did in the manga.

I was not going to stop this outcome. She was a fool for blaming herself for the weakness and stupidity of the child Zaraki. If you love fighting so much that you would rather be weak to enjoy it longer than to be strong and not get to fight as much, then you don't deserve to live.

I would have killed him and absorbed his soul to feed it to the Hoygoku Mk. ∞, but I know that Unohana would never allow me to do that. Too bad. Eh, I'll find others that are just as strong and feed those.

.

I watched as the fight seemingly reached its climax and Unohana would have lost when a change occurred. I saw it happen. The young Zaraki had denial in his eyes as his instincts told him that the woman in front of him would die. He was well acquainted with death and knew that she would lose and die.

But he didn't want that. I can see it in his eyes. The refusal and sadness that the first fighter with whom he had fun, was going to die. And then he subconsciously made himself weaker to prolong the fight.

Unohana also felt it. She was fighting the child and understood what happened. She was once again shocked. The fight took a turn and suddenly Zaraki was on the losing side.

Unohana defeated the boy and looked at him lying on the ground. She was bleeding profusely and was out of breath. The surprised look had still not left her face and she seemed to be trying to put her head around what had just happened.

She knew that he was the one. The one who was worthy to become Kenpachi. And because of her weakness, this boy had just sealed his true power. She had failed, in her mind.

.

I walked up to her and started to heal her. She was not paying attention to me. I was quick and the Kaido I used was powerful in my hands. I was very good with Kido of any kind and when I had nothing else to do, I invented new Kido.

I took out 'Jūtai no Utagaki' and walked over to where Zaraki was lying on the ground. I was curious whether Unohana would stop me.

And just as I approached the boy ... I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Don't He is the one.", she said.

"Haa, as you wish.", I said and then sheathed my Zanpakuto again.

I healed the boy as well and then turned to Unohana who was looking at me. She had a contemplative look on her face. It seemed like she was unsure about something.

She shook her head and then walked away. I followed behind her knowing that I, Gremmy Thoumeaux would get my future fight with the Kenpachi of Zaraki. Oh, I can hardly wait. I also want to fight him but it will not be like last time.

I will have us fight to our heart's content and when the time is right, I will defeat him. Hehehe

(3rd Person POV)

A few days after this incident, Unohana called Toji to her room. She had something to discuss with him and it was important.

*Knock Knock*

"Enter, Toji."

Toji entered the room and sat down in front of her. They knew each other well enough to stop all pretences and almost see each other as equals. Toji could feel the change in Unohana. Her air had changed and he knew what this meant.

And to be honest ... he was disappointed. One loss and she gave up on wanting to be Kenpachi and ...

"I asked the Head Captain to be transferred to the 4th Division."

"I see."

"You are not surprised?", she asked him.

"No."

"Hmm, did you expect this to happen?"

"Does it matter? It is a fact and you are leaving. I guess someone else will take up the position of Kenpachi then?", Toji asked her.

"... yes. I talked to Yamamoto and we agreed that as long as you agree you-"

"I refuse. I have no interest in becoming Kenpachi. I much rather have a position that does not make me do too much paperwork. I'll find another squad to join."

Unohana looked at him. And it seemed like she was ... disappointed. No that was wrong. She was ... happy.

"Then ... come with me."

"To the 4th Division? I am far too lazy to do all the basic healing they do there. When I was in the Shinigami Academy and got my Zanpakuto, I thought about joining the 4th Division. But the idea to start at the bottom again is just stupid."

"You won't start at the bottom. You can become Lieutenant if you wish. I want to have you as my Lieutenant."

"You know it doesn't work like that. The other squads are not like the 11th. I would have to actaully do some work there."

"Fufufu. Look at you. Well you have no choice in the matter. I already gave Yamamoto your papers and told him you would follow me to the 4th Division to become my Lieutenant."

"What? Why?"

"I think that's pretty obvious. Do you think that I would allow you to join another squad? No way when I saw the way you are getting close to Furōfushi Saitō."

"What are you talking about? We just spar from time to time. She is fun to be around."

"Oh? And what about Nobutsuna Shigyō?"

"What about him? He is dead."

"And whose fault is that?"

"Not mine. There were things that you didn't know about. We had a fight and everything was going well, but that idiot went overboard with his Bankai and damaged the Seireitei.

It was too strong for him and he died, that's not my fault."

"Then why didn't you save him?"

"... he didn't want me to."

Unohana widened her eyes. This she didn't know.

"He didn't want you to?"

"No. He hated the way Soul Society was changing and wanted to go out on his own terms. He refused to be treated."

"Well, no matter. You are coming with me and that is final. It is time for you not to spend so much time fighting anymore. Furōfushi can get someone else to fight with her."

"Don't I get a say-"

"No!"

.

And that was how Toji's time in the 11th Division came to an end and his time in the 4th Division started.

No matter how Unohana disliked it, Toji would continue to spar with Furōfushi and spend some time with her. She was fun to be around and he enjoyed her company. She was one of the last original Captains around and as far as Toji was concerned ... the last true original Captain.

She was true to her word and disliked to change. She loved to fight and to joke around. And there was nothing that would make her change. That's what Toji liked about her.

However, Unohana didn't like the connection he had. He even got into a fight with her about it. He was not a beta male and it had to be said that Unohana didn't control his life.

After that, she gave him so much paperwork to keep him from going out. Little did she know that Toji was far ahead of her. He imagined the paperwork being done and it was done. After that, he was free to go and do what he wished.

And so more time passed. It was time for Toji to finish up his Hogyoku Mk. ∞ and finally fuse with it.
