Chapter 9: satisfying the head chef

As the kitchen door opened, it revealed a young man around the age of 15, wearing standard chef clothing, this was definitely the new worker xin yi mentioned. This was obviously xie shen, our protagonist of the story

Just as he was about to raise a hand to greet them, he was cut of by the oldest one

"The guy you were talking about was this brat?"

'Huh? Brat? I see… i just entered here and im already picture that old man's character' he thought with a poker face, there was the iconic old tsundere man judging the mc when he first sees him, but after the mc proves himself, the old man either accepts him or gets impressed. It was a cliche he knew from watching multiple anime and reading fanfics

Xue zemin got close to xin yi and whispered in her ear "i don't get why he does this all the time but he likes acting like a tough old man to the newcomers " the former said with a plain expression on his face

The former whispered back to him "*sigh* dont worry, he naturally has to do this everytime he encounters a new employee" she said with a hint of annoyance on her voice. she remembered the time when she just got hired, the old man starting acting rude to her specifically. But all of the other employees who used to work told her its all an act, making the head chef frustrated at his former workers who exposed him

'Damn it… why cant they stay silent for once!?' Dai shan thought angrily at his co-workers, giving them a death stare, only to get a response from both about to combust from laughter

While they were about the argue, xie shen took a deep breath

He once planned an absolute introduction for himself after he heard from a bizarre man introduce himself, ending up useless in his previous world as almost everyone he met didn't watch anime. But now, he can finally put the essay he prepared some years ago into use

After he readied himself, he spoke "My name is Xie shen. I'm 14 years old. My house is in the northeast section of liyue, where most of the citizens and stalls are, and I am not interested in love at the moment, nor do i pursue it. Though i dont work, i am an aspiring chef planning to open a restaurant. and I get home every day by 9PM at the latest. I don't smoke, nor do i drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues with my health that i attempt to maintain regularly. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very normal life as a chef. I take care not to trouble myself with any competitors in the future, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to cook, it would be one of the tastiest things you'll put in your mouth." He blurted it all out with absolute confidence. Not averting his gaze at the head chef

While the 2 younger ones look at him strangely, the older was intrigued by this course of action

"I see… thats big talk kid. With all that information you said, i want you to prove yourself. you cant step back from this like a dog with all bark no bite, right?" the old man was amused by this situation, only a handful of workers bothered greeting him, much less for the new ones to introduce themselves to him

"I see, then im awaiting your orders, what do you wish me to cook for you?" Xie shen asked

"…whatever you want, there is a lot of ingredients in this kitchen so you wouldn't have a problem in finding the necessary ingredients. and if you do have trouble finding the specific ingredients around, you could ask me or anyone" dai shan informed him

"I see, then ill make sure to put that information to use." The former assured and began to walk further in the kitchen

'Thank god he didn't notice me gasping for air…' Ryuma relieved, it took a bit of an toll on him to say all that in a couple of breath between sentences

'During my training, I've cooked a hefty amount of delicious foods to eat, and that consists of chicken, beef, pork, fruits and mostly vegetables as to not indulge in high-calorie foods, making my training useless. But out of all the dishes i made, i never actually used or cooked fish in this word before, so ill try cooking them how i used to do it' he mused to himself

He also decided to use the actual ingredients of this world, he is currently relying on buying and storing spices and contents from the system's ingredient shop to cook foods from his own world

If he were to use the same products for cooking he bought instead of the normal ones, it may lead to unnecessary trouble between customers and causing other restaurants to spy on his to find out the secret to his cooking. Which may expose him as an otherworlder, which is the most dangerous thing he could reveal to everyone

As he searched for the proper contents, he got the perfect idea on the meal he'll cook

Mediterranean baked white fish.

Its a dish loaded with bright Mediterranean flavors, this baked white fish takes is seasoned with oregano and garlic and topped with a mixture of tomatoes, olives, and red onions. Its a dish he used to cook a lot when he once worked in a fancy restaurant

Believe it or not, but he worked as a chef in 14 different restaurants, why? Because he either kept getting fired for no reason, or the restaurant gave him a minimum wage. Mostly quitting from the latter explanation

And now… he'll get on to cooking

1/2 white fish fillet, Kosher salt and ground black pepper, Extra virgin olive oil, Juice of 1/2 lemon more for later 8 ounces cherry tomatoes, halved. 3 ounces pitted olives, halved. 3 tablespoons minced red onion, 4 to 5 garlic cloves, minced. 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves, 2 teaspoons dried oregano. These are the ingredients he could gather as of now, he had to take a lot of time to prepare them

Just as he was about to pull out a mini oven out of his inventory, he quickly reminded himself that he isn't alone anymore, so he quickly looked behind him. Only to see the head chef silently judging him, and the other two were playing rock paper scissors

This was a problem.

As you all know, Teyvat was less advanced than planet earth ( mondstadt, liyue and inazuma. Maybe sumeru. But for the other nations they may be comparable or better in general ) meaning technology from the former planet is nowhere as advanced as the latter one, so he isn't able to pull out his cooking gadgets from his also unique inventory ability

'Although i cant use my normal stuff i use for cooking, this isn't all too bad as atleast there is some form of a usable oven' he observed the furnace for a bit before deciding

This time, he'll ACTUALLY get onto cooking

There was a alluring aroma coming out of the kitchen, it was hard to ignore as the pleasant smell went on to their noses

It was indeed, xie shens cooking.

Dai shan has seen the young man cook with intense focus on his dish. Careful on doing any mistakes, surprising him as he cooked like an experienced chef despite his young age

Seeing him preparing the meal on a plate, the old man prepared himself to taste the meal

"Here you go, i hope this dish is to your liking" xie shen said, handing dai shan his freshly-made food, alongside it is a knife and a fork.

The former accepted them, and placed the plate on the counter.

Dai shan sliced the fish and took a part of it with his fork and brought it to his mouth, expecting a wonderful bite

( Authors note: i hope you guys enjoy this chapter today! Sorry for it being a bit short, and I sincerely apologize for not updating for almost a month. Because honestly, I didn't feel like writing. Which is why this chapter may have a bit of mistakes since it was a bit rushed.

Also, i ask you to make suggestions for upcoming chapters as i think im going to start the main storyline at some actual point in the late future, ill tell you when the main storyline for teyvat starts when i decide. I wish you all a nice day! )
